Default iPhone Hookup to After Market Radio

I'm thinking about ditching my satellite radio (costs are getting to be too much and the quality has gone done after the merge IMO) and hooking up my iPhone to my car stereo. I can of course load a ton of music on it and simply listen to most of the stuff I'm paying sat radio for.

Is there an easy way to do this? Good quality?

I have an older after market car stereo...don't have the model on hand, but it is a Panasonic with moving images on the screen and some cool features, so it's not that old or bottom of the line or anything.

Thanks for anyone who could point me in the right direction.

I could do some searching for you but I need the model number. Depending on the model you may be able to get an adapter cord that plugs directly into the back of your deck. Quality on mine is as if you were listening to it directly through the headphones.

After doing a quick check I only came up with one cable and it is for older model ipod's so I'm pretty sure it won't work

I think you are SOL sorry

If your deck has an input (RCA?) for a disc changer, you could run an RCA to minijack and plug it into the headphones jack. That leaves your dock adapter free for a charger.

Thanks guys. Might have to look at some alternative method or think about a new deck.

I was in your position last year ... I went to futureshop and they installed a little switch for me that I can just plug into. Works like a charm. All in all with install it was around $60-$80. It isn't crystal clear like it would through an actual aux input, but I found it to be a happy, cheap medium between an fm transmitter and a new deck.

Do you have a seperate amp by chance? i had one installed in my last car, and wanted to use my ipod, but the head unit had no aux ins, so I just plugged straight into the external amp, and had awesome sound. it actually makes a super cheapo, but great sound quality option. A $100 amp is probably better sound quality than almost any built in amp. Your stuck controlling everything including volume by your ipod, but I didn't care.

I know this isn't the best solution, but I used an iPhone FM transmitter in the car on the way home from BC earlier this month. I was able to catch the game on the radio (using Wunder Radio app) for the most part. Rogers data coverage seriously blows in the rural areas though, so I missed most of it.

Apparently my deck has and Aux plug attached to the back of it, so I would have to pull it out and get that out somehow to plug into. That would do it as far as I heard.
