I discovered a heck of a deal at Canadian Tire- an infrared thermometer for $28! (regularly $100)

This is the same little type of gadget that Alton Brown uses to check the temperature of his pans and oven. While it only checks surface temp, (not telling you if roasts are done or anything), that is a nifty little gadget for keeping your cooking a little more consistent.
I sure wouldn't spend the $60-$130 these things usually cost just to know how hot my pan/oven is. For $28, I think it's a great deal if you love cooking like I do!
I have just been testing it now, checking my fridge, stove, etc. It works well it seems (claims accuracy within 1 or 2 degrees C), and my only complaint is the battery compartment is a little hard to get into.
Enjoy, fellow cooking nerds!
