Default Laws you may never have thought existed or heard of?

Here's one that I never knew existed set forth by the UN in june 1960. (almost 1 year before a man even traveled outside of earth's atmosphere)

Quote:
ARTICLE I: ..." Outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, shall be free for exploration and use by all States without discrimination of any kind, on a basis of equality and in accordance with international law, and there shall be free access to all areas of celestial bodies. There shall be freedom of scientific investigation in outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, and States shall facilitate and encourage international cooperation in such investigation."

ARTICLE II: " Outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means."

Yes I knew that, but individuals can buy a piece of the moon. I own a half section in Lake Armstrong.

Carmel By The Sea (a city south of San Fran) has a law that requires women to have a liscence to wear high heels. Apparently it was to avoid lawsuits being filed against shop owners where people fell over cracked sidewalks and whatnot. It is still a law but not strictly enforced.

I was referencing a scam that went around. Some guy claimed that people could stake a claim to sections of the moon. People gave him money to buy land on the moon.

I remember reading about some prince or triabl leader from the middle east who tried to sue the U.S. for trespassing claiming that he had inherited the moon from his ancestors.

Only in the great USA would someone sue for breaking a heel off a shoe. I can hear the argument now...your honor, my client hurt her ankle so bad it will put her aspiring dancing career on hold for many many years and potentially cost her millions down the road.

Here's a real beauty from New Jersey

Adoption is the most noble and selfless thing a human being can do. Taking someone who desperately needs to be loved in the most innocent person is, in my mind, the greatest expression of love in this cold universe.
So why, according to TIME, do some states have a law forbidding atheists from adopting?

Quote:
In an extraordinary decision, Judge Camarata denied the Burkes' right to the child because of their lack of belief in a Supreme Being. Despite the Burkes' "high moral and ethical standards," he said, the New Jersey state constitution declares that "no person shall be deprived of the inestimable privilege of worshiping Almighty God in a manner agreeable to the dictates of his own conscience." Despite Eleanor Katherine's tender years, he continued, "the child should have the freedom to worship as she sees fit, and not be influenced by prospective parents who do not believe in a Supreme Being."

Just stupid and the judge should be pizzed on!

Cool. Now that's a swindle a guy can be proud of.

That article is from 1970.

I wouldn't be all that surprised if it happened today though.

If you killed someone on the Moon could you still be charged on Earth?

Because atheists are godless heathens with no moral compass who are responsible for global warming, the economic downtown, and the abolition of $2 tuesdays at movie theatres. They are incapable of love and have no business owning pets, let alone raising children.

Didn't you know?

Pretty sure there are some states that do not allow Atheists legally to be in office, I might be wrong though.

I'm sure most here know this, but if your kicked out of Calgary (whatever that means) you have to be supplied with a horse and a gun.

Any idea what it would take to get kicked out without going to jail or anything?

In 2199, it will be "whoever has the best laser gun owns the moon and all prospective mining rights"
