Default Caps vs. Thrashers down the stretch ...

Here is a list of the remaining games down the stretch in the battle for the Division. (Overall league position in parentesis) . Currently the Caps hold a one point cushion, with Atlanta having 2 games in hand.

Caps have 6 games remaining: 100pts

Rangers (#4) - W
Blues (#14) - L
Lightning (#20)
Avalanche (#29)
Bruins (#25)
Bruins (#25)
Flyers (#12)

Thrashers have 8 Games remaining. 98pts

Canadiens (#1) - OTL
Hurricanes (#16) - L
Senators (#6)
Ducks (#7)
Leafs (#26)
Hurricanes (#16)
Leafs (#26)
Senators (#6)
Hawks (#19)

Overall the Thrashers have a more difficult schedule.. However the 2 games they have in hand give them some leeway. It is very possible that the Division comes down to the Thrashers-Hawks game on the last day of the season.

Of note: The Thrashers, Capitals and Pens are all going for the Hilton Hotels Sponsorship worth 1.8 Million. Here is the race for this..
Team GP W L OTL PTS
Washington Capitals 100
Atlanta Thrashers 98
Pittsburgh Penguins 99

The Finish will be right down to the wire!!

Should be interesting. I want the division title but this year more so then previous years, it does not matter as much as no matter who we play in round 1 will be a solid team. I think any team from 1-8 could realistically beat anyone. The top 4 seeds will not be heavy favorites this year as compared to previous years IMO.

Anyways, like you said it should be close.

I completely agree; it could really go in any direction.

Really the East and the entire CPHL is Montreal and than everyone else.

No need to waste our time with playoffs, give the Canadiens the trophy.

As for the South East Atlanta has always had good teams. Didn't matter who the GM is, that person has always figured out how to put together a really good team. Pretty remarkable run of consistency. I pick the Thrashers to win. Although the Caps have been pretty good for like 4 years in a row now too.

Bump -

Updated with the new results.... Caps and Thrashers now sitting within .05 WIN % , and the Pens get a much needed win to stay in the Sponsorship hunt.
