Default Scientist cut off from reserch grant teet.

If you ever supposed that scientists could possibly, actually, maybe be seduced by the money...here is a whopper of an example. Tad embarrassing for UofA and UofC

Canada's largest research-funding organization has slapped an extraordinary ban on a star scientist who is accused of plagiarism and of spending up to $150,000 in government grant money on custom car parts, televisions, home-entertainment systems and other equipment "inconsistent" with his research proposals.
Officials at the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) say they have barred the scientist from funding indefinitely. They will not name him.
But Canwest News Service has learned the researcher is Daniel Kwok, by all accounts a brilliant engineer at the University of Calgary, whose career has been nurtured by the research council for years. He has collected almost $2-million in federal grants and fellowships.

In other news sometimes people are corrupt and steal from other people. Shocking.

NSERC is the primary source of research funding for undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral and professor fellowships in Canada. Despite this one example, the vast majority of researchers don't abuse the system. NSERC funds so many people, in so many areas and I hope that this single incident doesn't adversely affect the grant money coming out.

Also, the 2 million dollars that he has received appears to have primarly been put towards his research. The money he spent on his personal life is wrong but he didn't spend 2 million dollars on himself.

Well, you really knocked the teeth out of the "All scientists everywhere are infallible and incapable of base urges like greed for ever and ever amen" crowd. Board's going to be awfully quiet from now on.

You can't trust a damn thing any scientist says. Which is why I trust CEOs and politicians. They are the ones that are immune from greed and corruption.

There is only one thing that I trust in this world, the awesomeness that is White's mustache.
