Default Can 100 kids beat a professional soccer team?

Another reason why Japan is awesome.

http://www.greenlemon.co.cc/2010/03/...0-primary.html

Can Cerezo Osaka win the 40-30-30 formation school kids?

They stole my idea!

There are some sports that large amounts of average people would easily beat a regular pro team, some sports in which it would be even, and some sports that the pro team would still easily beat the average people, no matter how many of them there were.

Soccer should ALWAYS be played this way. This was so much more exciting than any other game I've ever watched.

I'd call this one a draw. The pro team had height and speed advantage and everytime they broke from the pack, they were deadly.

The 100 kids though, when they swarmed the goal from a corner kick, it was basically a sure goal and undefendable.

My brothers and I used to speculate on this (hence the idea stealing) except that we'd talk about 50 average guys playing against an NFL team (The 50 average guys should easily be able to win), or 50 average guys playing against a NBA team (the NBA team should still be able to win), or 50 average guys vs an NHL team (with the interference rules, the NHL team should win easily, although it would be a rather sloppy game.

Of course we'd always assume that the average guys would be coached at least, to know good strategies to beat the pro team.

I think 50 average guys would get the snot kicked out of them against an NFL team. After a few plays, there wouldn't be enough uninjured people to field a full offensive or defensive line.

I think the NBA team would lose. Even if they are average and you are nine inches taller than them, 10 guys defending in you in basketball has got to be impossible to beat.

If the football and hockey players were playing for keeps, they'd have their opponents thinned out pretty quickly.

An interesting and idiotic discussion. I like it.

I dunno, Yao Ming, Shaq and some other 7 foot tall dudes should be able to pass the ball without average people being able to take away the ball from them. The question is how to they play defense against 100 people.

Hockey would be hard to play with 100 people. Too much interference and crap. If there were no penalties, no hitting and you played pond hockey, then that'd be interesting.

Depends, if its a Japanese 'pro' team then sure, you take those same 100 kids and make them play a very skilled Brazilian team or a very physical African team and maybe not.

I've seen players who could play the ball exclusively aerially, and keep the ball over their heads for the vast majority of play.

Or the Africans could probably just wreck them....

Yeah, it would be kind of hard to defend against those freaks. It'd be a pretty boring game. Poor Shaq would probably set a record for missed free throws. Maybe he already has that record though.

I think soccer is for sure the easiest sport to lose at versus 100 kids, the field is simply way to crowded.
NBA players would simply pass the ball over everyone's heads and nail three pointers and if they miss it is a slam dunk. They would repeat that over and over again.
Hockey is as simple as Ovechkin stealing the puck and driving the net as opponents explode all over. Even a goon would skate circles around average players (I was very impressed when this first happened to me). I am not sure what would happen with 100 opponents on the ice at once but I am sure the kids would scramble for cover when Chara lines up a slap shot.
Baseball would result in a perfect game by any pro pitcher.
An NFL game would be won no matter how they chose to play. Any 6 foot 6 receiver would simply catch balls over everyone's heads, a running back would obliterate anyone in their path, and the offensive line would push forward at the snap and allow the QB to walk forward enough that every fourth down they would easily be able to drive down the field.
I am curious how Navy Seals would do against 100 kid paint ballers or other strange combinations.

I don't know anything about soccer -- are African teams known for thuggery?

I hope so. That'd be cool.

Not thuggery per se, but they're very physical. Most European and South American teams are big on skill and fancy plays while I've found African teams very physical. In the past only the Germans really introduced a physical style of play and its got them a long way. England is beginning to come along, maybe Shawcross will make the national team....

I love watching African teams play, they believe in hard tackles and unyielding defence. They are very tough and punishing.

The guys playing football aginst the NFLers would obvoisly need the most coaching. The wrong tactics, and they extra players would be useless. However, a group of 50 well coached average guys should be able to score TDs almost at will. 5 average guys should be able to handle any NFL player - easily blocking them enough to run around them. When the NFLers have the football, it should be very hard for them to complete a pass, the quarterback would be swarmed from all sides almost instantly (5 or guys would be easily blocked, but the other 20 or more would have free paths to the QB), and any reciever he throws to should have 5 guys around him, unless that pass is absolutely perfect, and up high, out of the reach of the defenders jumping, they aren't going to be completed, there's just way to many hands that could knock down the ball.

Running the ball would be difficult aginst such a crowded field, sure, the first guy and the second guy migth be thrown aside, but the third or fourth guy would get enough of the ball carrier to get him down, and that wouldn't be far from the line of scrimmage.

I don't think an NFL team would feild the same 11 players they would against another NFL team, I think the NFL teams would put in tall, fast athletic guys, and less slower, big guys. Ialso think the NFL team would be trying a whole lot more misdirection - trick plays.

50 average tennis players would find it rather hard to score a point aginst Roger Federer.

Fifty average guys (playing texas scramble syle) would easily beat Tiger Woods.

One thing to keep in mind is that in a group of fifty average guys, there will be a few players that have played the sport they are playing at some kind of higher level, and there will be a few guys that are pretty much useless.

Baseball, like someone said, the pitcher would likely throw a perfect game for the MLB team. The MLB team would struggle to get hits other than home runs, but would easily have enough home runs and walks to score lots of runs. They would reach base on qutie a few dropped balls too.

Soccer, like the video shows, would be close.

Any NFLer playing for keeps would easily injure 3-4 average guys per play if he wanted to, so if this is a 3 play game the average guys might have a chance. If it's a full game the 4h quarter would be 11 v. none.

If they wanted to, sure. But for the most part, doing so would involve getting kicked out of the game. Sure, some would get injured, but the NFLers couldn't just injure average guys at will. If we are talking like that though, we could turn it around too. Five guys against one NFLer could probably injure that NFLer on every play too, if they wanted to.

Are we allowing substitutions for the NFL team for injuries? If so, the team of 50 guys has subs on the bench too.

Thank God they're not playing the Italian team otherwise there would be a lot of angry Japanese parents complaining that their kids came home with facewashes, broken shins, and a stack of red cards because any time someone came near an Italian player he would fly ass over tea kettle and do this for 15 minutes.

Not sure if you guys seen Pros vs Joes show, but even long retired players that are in the late 40s can still destroy an average guy.

It would be incredibly easy for an NFL player to injure an average guy within the rules of the game. Incredibly easy. It doesn't work the same the other way.

The numbers also don't help as much as you think in other aspects. A bunch of average guys would be likely to get flagged for illegal contact on pretty much any passing play, pressure on a QB wouldn't be an issue with a shotgun formation and a quick pass, and there's a pretty good chance that at least one average guy would get caught for a hold or illegal block pretty frequently. Kind of hard to win when so many plays are getting called back.
