Default Telus releases Milestone

So, Telus released the Motorola Milestone(droid) yesterday and became the only carrier in the world with both the Milestone and the iPhone.

Anyone get it yet?

From looking at the reviews it seems like its a great phone. I'll hopefully be picking one up this week if I can as my my plan is just running out.

Most of the reviews I read seem somewhat dissapointed in it. I have been looking for a new phone for a while and had thought of this one until a guy I know in the States who tried one out seemed to think it felt cheap and "plasticy" in his hand.

That and the thing is massive. Tad bulky for my liking.

I've had the Droid since December, and it is indeed a great phone. I rarely use the keyboard (mainly for playing NES games on an emulator) but I like having the option. The Nexus 1 is probably the only Android phone out there that might be better than the Droid/Milestone.

Is it being a bit thick a problem? That is really the only thing holding me back right now. And I love the slideout keyboard part.

My best friend still has a Razr from I don't know how many years ago... over 5, and it still works fine.

As far as the thickness, I had an LG Voyager before, and its thinner than that so it hasn't bothered me at all. Supposedly its less than 2 mm thicker than the iPhone.

Oh well. I guess I haven't really held it before so I'll see.

I do love everything else about the phone though.

I held one yesterday. Its actually a lot smaller than I thought it would be.

The keyboard seems weird though. Hard to press the buttons or something. Unless that is just how the 'test' model is.

If it weren't for the $399 price for a 2 year plan I'd have it already. Stupid Telus and their stupid contracts.

Yikes. They're down to $50 US on the internet, $150 in stores I believe. I might post kind of a review of my experience with the Droid over the last couple months sometime.

One thing I will say, is that the keyboard is not great, but I rarely use it anyway. Only for games, which it works fine for.

Yeah, its $499 on a one year plan. $199 on a 3 year plan.

I think I'll really like it, but man I hate shelling out that much money for it.

What's a plan run per month?

Mine's basically US$70 for unlimited data/email and 450 minutes of voice.

Which carrier are you with?

I have no idea what my plan is, but I doubt I'd get unlimited data/email for that price.

I'll have to check with Telus. I know my dad pays around $100+ per month and he has 500MB of data, unlimited email, and 600 min.

Verizon, which is the only carrier in the US that has the Droid/Milestone.

Phones sound expensive there... I assume all of them are that way, and not just Telus or the Milestone though?

Yeah, if you want that many minutes....

I can get 100 local min, 1gig bandwidth, unlimited texting and I assume unlimited email for $60/month.

Bought the milestone last week, it's a slick phone. Not as elegant as an Iphone, but the full qwert keyboard is nice as I'm coming from the blackberry world.

you get used to it.. not as great as a blackberry. The problem is that the keyboard doesnt have a great tactile feel to each key.

I would rather have this keyboard than no keyboard at all, like the nexus one of iphone.

Yeah, I like that part about it too.

I might pick it up on Thursday. Not sure if I want to commit to the 3 year deal though.

I'm not a big texter, but like I said earlier, I find myself using the on screen keyboard for basically everything. If the Nexus One had been available back when I got the Droid, I wouldn't have considered it, because I thought I needed a real keyboard. Knowing how little I use the real keyboard now, I might make a different choice, but the Nexus One still isn't available in the US on Verizon. The Droid/Milestone has the highest screen resolution currently available on any US network, and one of the more powerful processors. Those are the reasons I don't feel I made a mistake in getting one.

I am a pretty heavy data user, averaging 700-800 megabytes per week, so a 1 gig per month plan wouldn't work for me at all. Once you learn some of the workings of this phone you realize how much it is just a little computer.
