Default 2002 vs 2010

We all know this is going to come up eventually either in a bar one day over a few brews with buds or some place else but which Olympic team do you consider would win between the 2002 Gold team and the 2010 Gold team. Taking away players from both teams : Iggy, Niedermayer and Pronger I think it breaks down like this.

Goaltending: 02 Brodeur takes 10 Luongo.
Even tho he lost the starting job in 10 Brodeur is still the greatest goalie to ever live and in 02 he was in the prime of his career.

Defence: 10-Doughty,Keith, Seabrook, Webber, Boyle takes 02-Blake, Brewer, Foote,Jovo, McCinnis
The 02 Team has some questions on the blue line with Brewer, Foote and Jovo.

Forwards 02- Sakic, Yzerman, Lemieuxe, Fleury,Gagne,Kariya, Lindros,Nieuwendyk,Nolan, Peca,Shanahan, Smyth takes 10- Crosby, Getzlaf,Heatley, Thornton, Marleau, Morrow, Toews,Nash, Richards, Perry,Staal.
Even tho its 2 early to tell how the 2010 forwards careers will go the 02 team had some of the greatest forwards of all time in Sakic , Yzerman and Lemiuxe.

This team is more talented overall, but I can never vote against a team with Mario on it.

Overall for forwards, I still think 10 has a better lineup. Much more balanced... and we didn't even dress the tampa line. In all respects, Canada has improved except goaltending. But, all the other teams have increased too... skill just keeps getting better, people get bigger, faster and stronger

I think 2010 would mop the floor with 2002. That team struggled to score goals the whole tournament and really limped out of the group stage... but, they got a favourable draw in the knock-out round, and really only had to play one good game - though, what a performance it was.

2002 would mop the floor and then some with 2010.

Ps, Roy, Hasek, Tretiak, and Dryden might have something to say about your comment about Brodeur.

Winning gold on visitor ice and without a Canuck goalie playing was awesome so 2002 takes the cake.

2002 had Joe Sakic, Steve Yzerman, Mario Lemeuix, and Martin Brodeur, with Iggy.

Sorry, but the two greatest 19's to ever play PLUS #66.

What does this 2010 team have? Iggy and Crosby, big whoop.

The 2010 team would still crush the 2002 team though, but there is no comparison.

Agreed. 2002 was not only a better team, but also the more significant gold medal win, imo.

Well, you know Roy would be blustering away like he is known to do, but I'd take Brodeur over all four of them as well.

I wouldn't. Hasek is the best goalie I can remember watching. Roy pretty much singlehandedly won Cups for Montreal. I'd take either of them in their primes over Brodeur.

Coaching also has to be considered here and in 02 we had Quinn who was willing to stick with his lines and in 10 we had Babcock who was more willing to change lines. The 02 team also had one dominating player in Sakic who carried the team on his shoulders for the gold medal game while in 10 it was more of a total team effort.
