Default Backes and Kane with ill-timed words...

http://interact.stltoday.com/blogzon...h-ryan-kesler/

Quote:
Blues center David Backes hasn’t forgotten.

Even though Backes is enjoying Ryan Kesler as his teammate on the U.S. Olympic roster, he still remembers wanting to beat the snot out of Kesler during last year’s playoff series between the Blues and the Vancouver Canucks. In the series, Kesler tried to get under Backes’ skin by referencing his wife, Kelly, during the game.

“I think it was, ‘Tell Kelly I said Hi,’” Backes remembers Kesler saying to him. “He can tell me I’m stupid or slow or a bad hockey player. (But) you bring my wife into it and now we get personal. As I said then, if he wants to pick a fight with my wife, he’s better off picking a fight with me. . . . I thought it was a little bit over the line.”
http://twitter.com/BotchonCanucks

"I've had my luck against him, personally," Kane said. "So he's a goalie I wouldn't mind facing."

Agree or disagree with the statements, not too smart to say leading into the gold medal game.

I wouldn't mind facing Luongo in a big time game either. He has a history of crapping the bed, hopefully he doesn't do it again though...

No, he doesn't. Infact it was one game that he melted down. Not a "history." One game.

Haha, all everyone does here is rip into Luongo/the Canucks... now when Kane makes a snide/funny comment about Luongo he'll probably be torn apart for being an arrogant American.

Let him. I want Luongo to have something to prove.

So what you're saying is that comment doesn't come across as arrogant?

Kane can talk all he wants, Luongo is going to be prepared for this game and I have no problems going into a 1 game elimination with him in the nets (as opposed to some Flames fans here). I'm glad Luongo feels like he has something to prove, comments like this just add fuel to the fire imo.

Well to start Kesler is an idiot and Backes is right in saying you should leave that stuff out of the game.

As for Kane, is what he saying not true?

I hope Backes does wipe the dressing room floor with Kessler before the teams split up tomorrow after the game. What a classy Canuck that Kessler is.

What an attitude on that kid Kane - as much as I agree with the logic about being that age with that kind of money creating the attitude I still don't like the kid one bit.

He falls right into line with the tradition of arrogant POS star players in the US program with Chelios, Roenick, etc although to be fair he hasn't even trashed his first Olympic athletes residence yet so maybe I should give him more of a chance.

Re: Backes.

Even if you were to pretend that what Kesler said was completey "out-there" as far as what is and is not acceptable amongst NHL players...Now is not the time to bring it up. Why put anything out there that the media can use as a distraction?

Re: Kane

Again, true. But why say something like that about a proud (big ego) guy like Luongo on the eve of the biggest game of his career? As if he needed any more motivation?

Dumb move by 20cent Patrick Kane.

07/08 ring a bell? He did a great job ending the season early so he could go be with his family...

ya great job, the entire top 4 defense were out for something like 15 games in the 2nd half that year, and 3 of the top 5 for something like 20 of the last 25

but it was Luongo's fault

and I think Backes is being too sensitive there, I have been to playoff games and heard some of the trash talk. That kind of stuff happens all the time.

And even current and ex players have said the only stuff that is off limits are kids and illness stuff (like Avery supposedly making fun of Blake's cancer and causing a pre-game brawl)

I think he's referring to Luongo trying to play ref and call a penalty while Niedermayer floated the series winner past him.

That has nothing to do with his defense in the regular season. It was a flat-out choke by Luongo at worst possible time.

Ah never mind then, my bad.

My point still stands though. There's more than one instance of Luongo breaking down in the playoffs when it matters most.

Outside of the GWG and "The Bowl Incident" that may have been the single most dominant game Luongo has played in the NHL. He was flat out unbelievable all game and was the only reason the Canucks weren't blown out of the water in regulation...they had no business even sniffing overtime.

Everytime someone has linked http://twitter.com/BotchonCanucks, like in the Luongo save thread, it never works for me. It says: "This person has protected their tweets."

Maybe it only works for Canucknuckleheads

Maybe he remembers the last time he faced Luongo during the biggest game of his career. If Luongo needs more motivation to win tomorrow Canada is already in trouble!
