Anyone ever had Sciatica?
Is it not the worst pain you have ever felt? My pain started a week ago today. I had a pain running from my right butt cheek to my ankle bone. It was unbearable and i couldnt sit, lay , or stand without it hurting. I went and got a shot of tordarol and it has not helped. I can now sit and lay without pain but if I stand up and walk ... it just hammers my right ankle . The pain a makes me nauseous! I got Lortabs but they dont help... Anyone had this? and remedies to ease the pain??

I have a co-worker who had it, he was able to get relief with a series of acupuncture treatments.

First time I had it I think I was 24. I found nothing worked, it just went away with time (somtimes up to 5 days). I also found that the more I moved around (walked primarily) the better it felt. Lying down or sitting or whatever just made it worse. Probably had it 2-3 times since.
Saw a doctor about it, they just prescribed T3s and those didn't even help so I gave up on them.

Mine is opposite! I lay down or sit and it doesnt hurt that bad... when I stand up and walk ,the pain in my ankle is unbearable. Its on the outside and where it hurts is really swollen, hard, and tender to the touch. WHen i sit or lay down it hurts bad for a couple more minutes and then its relieved.... Its really cutting into my hockey time. I had a pain like this prob last Sept. and had 2 toradol shots and now its back. It seemed very relieved after the 1st shot but it will be a week tomorrow since my first shot . It was hurting all the time in any position at first, so i guess it relieved that but i want the ankle pain gone lol.

Yes, this is the worst and most unbearable pain I have ever gone through. My initial and most intense bout came about three years ago while I was sitting at work. The pain ran from my lower back right down the back of my leg and then into a spot right on the front of my shin. There was nothing that would relieve it, no matter whether I was sitting, standing, laying down, it would just not go away. I went to a chiropractor, took muscle relaxants, T3's, etc and I believe it was about three weeks before I could walk properly again. I find that I still get it running down my leg if I lay on the couch or sit for too long but it has been nowhere near as sever as it was that first time. I wish you well.

These are NOT the symptoms of sciatica. Did you see a doctor when those symptoms were present?

Try some acupuncture as rico suggested. Acupuncture has helped me in the past for other ailments.

I got this today, got out of bed too quick I guess. It seems like this happens out of nowhere and it sucks ass. I go through my stretches I do for Hockey and it takes care of it pretty good.

If you truly have objective findings of a swollen, hard and tender joint, I would get it checked out to make sure there is no underlying joint infection or inflammatory process like gout. Those can permanently wreck your joint if not treated promptly.

its actually not in a joint... the pain and swelling is actually further up the leg... prob 3 or 4 inches above the ankle.. the pain however shoots down into my ankle.

Go see a Chiropractor. After 4 months last time, he fixed me in one treatment, my doctor was useless.

Go to a chiropractor is my recommendation as well. I have had sciatica. Medication will help with the pain but not the cause. I did physio before trying the chiropractor and this did give me much more relieve than seeing the doctor and taking painkillers. Sciatica did eventually return though. The stretching and exercises I learned in physio made it more manageable but it was still a literal pain in the ass. My chiropractor helped immediately. It did take more than one visit for the cause to be corrected but the pain was greatly reduced after one visit. I went to the chiropractor 3 years ago for the first time and my sciatica has never come back. The cause has been corrected. The visit is covered under my health plan at work. If you want a recommendation on a chiropractor let me know and I will give you his name. Hope the pain ends soon.

I went to a chiropractor as a last resort and in no way did it help me in a short period of time. The pain did go away after a couple of months but I really can't say if chiro helped me at all.

My pain didn't go away entirely right away because I had left it too long before seeking treatment. I believe my ligaments, muscles etc. had to readjust back to normal after the adjustment. I felt some relief right away, the pain changed in a relaxing way. Sore rather than sharp.
I had never been to a chiropractor before so I waited way to long.

Yeah, mine acts up once every few months. I get regular massages so they usually fix it. A trick my masseuse taught me was... take a tennis ball or a ball hockey ball (the orange one), place it on the ground and kind of roll your lower back and effected butt cheek on it. Hurts like hell but provides a ton of relief.

chiropractic care and massage will help it.
best thing you can do, and I know it may hurt, is to continue walking.
Sciatica is basically the butt muscle clamping itself around the sciatic nerve which is the main nerve that runs down from your spine to your foot. I should caveat that by saying this is the main problem. Sometimes it can happen from the botton of your spine being pinched by a bulging disc.
Anyhow, when I had it the first time, I went to the hospital and they put a shot of demoral (sp) right into the butt muscle. After about 15 minutes, I started to feel loopy and the pain went away. It relaxed the muscle.
my suggestion is chiropractic and massage therapy.
