Default Windows 7 view irritation

I just got my new Dell laptop today with windows 7. I'm just setting it all up and getting things how I like them but I can't figure out one thing that sounds like such a minor thing but it's driving me nuts. I've messed and messed and googled and googled. Anyway:

At the top and bottom of the screen when a webpage, office document, and presumbly everything else is open, my desktop wallpaper shows. If I make the webpage "full page", the top menu goes to auto-hide (which I hate). I know it sounds petty but it's driving me nuts! Anyone know how to make it "the old way"?

The new goggles also do nothing.

Right click on the destop, choose personalize, click Window Color at the bottom, and uncheck "Enable Transparency".

Thank-you so much Photon, that was driving me crazy! I had hoped it was something easy like that!

One thing to note is that top menu Apple-y thing is a Dell installed product - nothing to do with Windows 7. You could totally disable it and have a better Windows 7 experience.

Thanks, I wondered about that. I haven't got that far with my personalization yet; still moving pics and files from the old laptop (and trying to organize at the same time) but I do think that little do-hickey will be gone soon.
