Default Cannot access 192.168.0.1

I have a desktop connected to a wireless router. I bought a new laptop to replace the desktop and while I can connect just fine to my current network, I cannot get to the router administration/settings page. I can, however, on the desktop.

A google search seemed to say that you cannot access the page wirelessly. If this is the case, does that mean I have to start the network all over with the ethernet cable connected to the laptop? And does that mean it would have to be connected via wire all the time if i ever want to access the settings page?

Some routers have the ability to turn on/off access to the settings wirelessly, if you can find it you can turn it on then won't have to use wired again.

That just might be the case. Some routers do not allow wireless access to the admin settings as an added layer of "security." How often do you need to access the admin settings? Is it something you can set and forget?

True, I doubt I will use it much. It just seems like something I should know how to get to if something ever goes wonky with the network.

Can't you use the wired desktop to change router settings? Perhaps there is a setting in the router that does not allow wireless connections. Try looking there.

What is it you are trying to do?

It's also possible your router isn't set up with that IP address.
You can go to Command Prompt (go to run, and then type in CMD, hit enter). Type in ipconfig, hit enter.
Now...if memory serves correctly...the default gateway is your router address. I'm really not sure on this one, but considering the minuscule amount of work involved...doesn't hurt to try.

Without knowing what router you're using it's hard to answer your question directly.

Can you access the settings page on your laptop while connected by an Ethernet cable?

If so, I'd dig into that settings utility to see if there is an option to disable wireless configuration access. It's a common security setting now since cracking wireless passwords is relatively common. It's a lot harder to hijack a router if you require physical access to it.

the router is a Dlink DIR-825. I tried digging through all of the options but I cannot see any area where I can disable the wireless configuration access...I might be overlooking it.

I tried just plugging the ethernet cable into the laptop but that did not work.
