Oh and the battery pack works in other controllers.
So it's something in the controller.

You have to press that button on the controller and on the xbox to get them to communicate. Did you try that? Did you try google?

what Nage said. Press and hold the sync button on the front of the xbox until the rings on the power go around. then press and hold the button on the top on the controller until the xbox controller flashes and kicks in.

I knew there'd be posts like that.
The controller does not work at all. Does not turn on, no green lights, nothing. The batteries work, the battery pack works, the controller does not.
Other controllers work just fine.

Sometimes a dead controller is a dead controller.

The middle button should flash regardless if it's connected to a console or not.
I don't know what the problem could be, must be broken somehow. My wireless mic just stopped working just like your problem. It worked 1 day, the next day I went to turn it on and it didn't turn on.

Xboxes are extremely well built, use high quality parts, and almost never break.

Yeah I wonder if the next generation Xbox will actually not be a giant hunk of plastic crap.
Microsoft must be taking quite a hit shipping out a few million refurbished xboxes.

Haha, kind of yea. Just the way it was working, sat on a shelf for ~10 days, and then just didn't turn on made me hope that maybe it was some little thing I could magically fix.
I guess I'm just resisting to give in to the fact that everything associated with the 360 is guaranteed to break.
So is it worth it to find a place to fix this?

Try gluing your controller to the front of your belt. Now you have a cool controller belt.

A few questions:
1) How long have you owned it?
2) Are there any obvious physical defects that you were responsible for? I mean, did you have a session of NHL 10 where the AI was particularly atrocious and you 'punished' it?
3) Have you ever opened the controller (removed any screws)?
If you can answer:
1) Under 12 months.
2) No, I have discipline.
3) No.
Then it is probably a hardware failure and it should be covered under warranty. You can call Xbox @ 1-800-4MY-XBOX (469-9269) or goto http://www.xbox.com/support and they should replace it for you. The fun part is all the penpal BS mailing it back and forth.
Don't know anywhere that fixes them, but if you have the original store receipt and you can still answer the 3 magical questions the same way, they may have a policy to replace it.

Unfortunately it's ~3 years old. It has been treated very well and has not been opened.
Dang!
Thanks though.
