Palin upset with Family Guy
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35430923/
I don't watch the show much myself, but from what I remember, this is par for the course, isn't it?
Sorry if it's a fata, but I searched the Off Topic Forum for "Family Guy" and nothing up...so...

That link is dead.
I watched the segment that I believe you are referring to (they called Palin a ###### I believe) and not only is it par for the course but is pretty accurate IMO. Not literally of course but in the context in which it is meant, ie Palin's IQ is about half of Forest Gump's.
Edit: NM. I clicked on the link again and it worked.
Edit2: after reading the article and having watched the episode on Sunday, I know it was a low blow but wasn't that bad. In fact my memory of the scene might be hazy and I'm wrong in my original thought that they were implying something about Palin.
Actually, I didn't find the whole Downs storyline offensive at all. Family Guy certainly poked fun at it but the message of the episode was at least a little bit genuine.

People have to stop getting offended by cartoons.

Its okay to pick on her, but if the episode made fun of her kid with Down Syndrome than she does have the right to complain.
Wish she would shutup though.

Yeah she isnt upset about what they said about her...but about her down syndrome child, and I agree, that is over the line. Its not funny....whether you like her or not, mentally disabled children simply are not good fodder for cheap jokes. And thsi coming froma guy that doesnt like Palin and loves Family Guy.

As my first post states my memory of the exact scene is a bit hazy but the episode as a whole certainly did not intentionally offend people with Downs.
Other than the (sort of) shot at Palin there wasn't really much to be offended about in regards to making fun of Downs. The point of the episode was that Downs or no Downs people who are aholes are aholes.
For anyone who didn't see the whole episode, Chris had a crush on a Downs Syndrome girl and she ended up being a total bitch and Chris learned that regardless of someone's lot in life an ahole is an ahole.

If so than she probably took offense to the '######' part of it.
Whatever though, I'd be happy if she disappeared forever.

Not the one...

It's either all ok to make fun of, or none of it is.

What exactly is offensive?
You clearly didn't watch the episode in question so I'm not sure how you can comment on it.
Furthermore, anyone remember the recent live Family Guy special? Deaf actress Marlie Matlin was "made fun of" on Family Guy and then on the live action special she appeared on the show in what was one of the funniest skits I've seen in a LONG time. Clearly she is aware that the has a "disability" and that jokes about it can be funny.

I don't think she would have minded as much if it was at her
but the exact quote was, when chris was asking the girl with downs syndrome about her family, "My mom used to be governor of Alaska"
which was viewed as taking a shot at her/her child with downs syndrome
I watch family guy all the time, but even I thought that was too far. Making fun of downs syndrome is one thing (even if as you say the message was that an ass%$%$ is an assh#*$ no matter what), but making an individual child with downs syndrome the but of a joke is wrong.

She was a grownup though Flip.
Its a different story to be making fun of a small kid that is 100% helpless.

Amen. I am a big Family Guy fan but that was way over the top.
Come on, making direct fun of a baby with Down Syndrome? Brutal.
That family has every reason to be mad about that.

I'm curious why you find it offensive that they referenced Sarah Palin? What about the particular scene in which Palin was mentioned was offensive to Palin's kid?
Unless you really stretch it and believe that they made the Downs girl look like a bitch on the show and in doing so were suggesting that Palin is a bad mother I just don't see the connection. Is it offensive that they implied that Palin's kid is a bitch? Is it offensive that they acknowledged that she had Downs?

Come on, it's Family Guy. That line was thrown in there because they knew Palin would take the bait. They are masters of trolling, they just do it on a cartoon instead of an internet forum.

I didn't watch the episode, but I honestly don't see what there is to be offended about here? Is there more to this?
Palins son has down syndrome, so now because this fictional character with downs has a mother who used to be gov. its offensive for some reason?

Yeah, I'm not sure either. I watched the episode and I thought at the time it was kind of a low blow but as I've already stated without the full context of the comment I don't see what is offensive about the girl saying "my mom is governor of alaska".
My initial memory suggested that Family Guy was implying that it is somehow hereditary, like ######s breed ######s, which is quite offensive to Palin but in the context of the article I can't find anything offensive about it.

I think it was just bringing attention or pointing out that she has a baby with downs syndrome, it was a stupid unneeded joke
as someone said they are the masters of doing this, but usually the target is an organization (say the catholic church) or an individual (like Palin, but not her child)
She shouldn't have taken the bait because all it gave them was free publicity, but it was over the line
