iPod... seriously..
I can think of no other more useless job than a DJ. My brother did it and nobody noticed or cared.

Hi Fundmark,
I can only offer negative advice but stay away from Care Free Sounds.
My buddy rented some pro audio equipment and plugged an ipod into the mixer. It worked incredibly well and I can get you the contact number for the rental company if you are interested.
With respect to Care Free Sounds, feel free to ask via PM as I will not drag the rest of CP through the misery they put us through.

PM sent.
As someone who had a great DJ at their wedding, I respectfully disagree with flizzenflozz completely.

Thanks for all the quick responses so far. I was thinking about going Ipod route as well since I know how to do that but didn't know about all the equipment and what not.

Be strict as to what you don't want played. IE: No Nickelback or Lady Gaga.
It helped for our wedding.

I actually decided to have a lady gaga themed wedding. So I am going to need a DJ that can make 4 or so hours worth of Lady Gaga remix's

Being the cheap-o I am, I planned on using an iPod. After that got nixxed by the higher ups, I ended up dropping nearly $1000 on a DJ for our wedding in Nov.
And it was damn worth it! Not only do you get the equipment (incl lights!), but any DJ worth their salt will be able to gauge the crowd and play music thats going to get everyone dancing (regardless of age). The evening wouldn't have been 1/2 as good without one.
Why spend all the money on the event and then cheap out on the fun part for all the guests?
Plus, your aunts and uncles dont want to listen to NIN all night.

I am amazed that DJ's get as much as a $1000.00 per night. Have live bands fallen out of favour at weddings or parties?
The only reason I ask is, for $1000.00 per night, you could hire a band.
just saying.

The DJ exists for your guests. Our DJ played a ton of stuff I wouldn't think to play and our guests had a great time. It's kinda like when you're at the dome and "cotton eye joe" starts up. You (like most sane people) give a groan and an eye roll. Within 10 seconds the dome is rocking every time. I don't get it, I don't want to get it ... but sometimes a DJ just knows how to get through to a crowd.

This is just another party. I feel cheap because if people really care they will come to the wedding in vegas and enjoy the fun extravegent party! Apparently this is a terrible way to look at it..thus I am looking for a DJ

My advice regarding wedding DJs. Every crappy wedding has a crappy DJ. Most couples think it's a good idea to cheap out on the DJ to pay for a fancier venue. That's the stupidest decision you can make. Save money on the venue that no one cares about and put that money to the DJ. Every kickass party needs wicked music. Every wedding should aim to be a kickass party. With that said, get a good DJ, you and your guests will appreciate it.
