Positive thread for the 2010 Olympics. Go Canada! Go Vancouver!
Lots of problems for sure, but I highly doubt its the Worst Olympic Games ever as some have proclaimed.
Great stuff:
Online coverage from TSN and CTV. Their streaming website is amazing!
Canada gets gold for the first time in history at home.
BC place has never looked better.
Lots of hot athlete chicks! hehe
It's a start.

Say what you want from the outside. The people who are actually here are having the time of their lives. It's been awesome in this city the first 5 days.

Aside from 1-2 glitches, I've been pretty happy with it.

It hasn't been perfect, but some people generally like to pounce on the negative aspect of things in life. Just the way they're programmed, I guess.
I really liked watching a B.C. girl win an Olympic gold in B.C.......very cool.
Curling last night was very loud. Seemed like a great atmosphere.
And one of my favorite moments is the medal ceremony at B.C. Place..........thousands of Canadians going crazy watching as one of our one gets a medal put around their neck, and then the national anthem. I get goosebumps watching that.

The commentators kept saying over and over how loud it was. I was really impressed with that. It wasn't just Canadian fans either, it sounded like a battle between "Go Canada Go" and "U-S-A". Great atmosphere.

I was just watching CTV and they had a little special on Shaun Davis, the African American speed skater. Apparently he is recognized as the first African American to win a gold in the winter olympics (Turin 2006).
WHAT ABOUT IGGY!!???

Its hard to compare events that happen every 4 years.
Its also hard to gain perspective on this games because every minor thing is magnified by canadians because its in canada.
I think its been pretty good.

I figured with one African parent he'd be in that category.

The Olympics have been fantastic. The opening ceremonies were fantastic but still people complain. Did any one raise a stink in Atlanta in 1996 when Mohammed Ali and the people helping him couldn't light the torch for 3 minutes?
Before last week did anyone know about the luger that died in a trial run before the olympics in Innsbrook in 1976? I didn't.
The weather has been less than perfect, but what about 88 in Calgary when we had the chinook in the first week and had to truck snow to the hills to place the snow on man made ramps and foundations.
And the Brits are making a stink about the weather and calling it the worst games ever. Well, they better be prepared in 2 years to host the first games never to see sunlight.
These games have been simply awesome! I'm prouder than ever to be a Canadian!

To everyone complaining about the Canadian TV coverage...STFU
The Canadian coverage has been nothing short of spectacular for these Olympics. I love the fact that three major networks are working together and providing us with an outstanding viewing experience.
The opening ceremonies were unbelievable as well. So emotional, so patriotic and so inclusive of all Canadian cultures. I had tears in my eyes throughout the entire ceremony especially when they showed the troops in Afghanistan decked out in their Canada gear watching the ceremonies on TV at 5:00AM.
GREAT JOB CANADA! I am so proud of my country!

I have Bell, and there's a zillion channels devoted to the Games, many in HD, and they're on pretty much 24/7.
Absolutely zero to complain about in that department........the coverage has been awesome.

Iggy may not be African or American, but he's more African-American than a large majority of self labeled African-Americans. With an African father and an American mother, he fits the label better than black Americans who could be 5 or 6 generations removed from their African ancestry.
At the end of the day I think African-American is a stupid and very often misused title, and most people probably don't even know the true definition of it, myself included. To me, to be an African-American you need to have been born in Africa and then emigrated to America. Jarome is a Canadian with black skin. Shani Davis is an American with black skin. Nothing more, nothing less.

The Australian broadcaster is loving the Games, loving Vancouver, loving the crowd... basically, they just can't say enough good things. They even seem to be rooting for Canada in events where an Aussie isn't in contention. It makes me really proud to see how highly a foreign network thinks of our Games.

I think the games have been awesome so far! Sure, some of our athletes have not performed "up to snuff", but what can you expect from amateurs that have the weight of the nation on their shoulders?
I am proudly one of those Canadians who figures a top 10 finish is amazing, a top 5 is outstanding and a medal is out of this world!
I just have to say, I was disappointed listening to the fan this morning. They were talked about Patrick Chan's (male figure skater) disappointing 7th place standing after last nights short program - his score on that skate was 15 points better than his previous best this year...how can that be a bad thing? These athletes put enough pressure on themselves to perform, they don't need us jumping on and adding to that weight.
