Shacknews and other places are giving away keys, most places you have to be a member I think though.

Got my key from Shacknews and am downloading now.

I don't know why other companies refuse to follow Blizzard's lead in releasing and supporting all their games on both platforms on the same launch date. I mean, sure I can just boot into Windows to play this... but yeesh, people. Way to leave some dollars on the table before your product has even launched.

Pre-ordered, holy crap the DL'ing is a joke, Atari won't offer download for beta so its torrents or ever crappier direct dl sites like fileplanet.

No way, it'll slow me down!

I'm a paying user though so I don't know what the free speed is like, it can vary quite a bit depending on how busy.

Pre-Ordered this a while ago... and tried it for a few hours today. Already has it's bugs and they shut the server down for at least 2 hours as a result. Now just waiting. Btw... nice and steady speed of 1.2MB/s on steam!

Down to 400ish, still WAY faster than torrents and the STO downloader.

Mind you I can't keep open torrents, raiding on WoW atm lol

Don't download it from Fileshack, it's corrupt.

First impressions? Is it any good? I am greatly anticipating, but also greatly worried about how the game will be...

Oh. My. God.

This game will easily replace Civilization as my favourite game ever.

I have a long road trip coming up, and I swore I would never stay up past midnight. It is 6am

It was shaky and glitchy at first, but it is the first day of open beta. There were a lot of people trying to get on at the same time, and a lot of people in the same areas at the same time. They will get this sorted out by launch.

I preordered through steam.

I am going to have many zombie like days at work in the coming year.

Awesome game.

***also, Zachary Quinto!!!!! It may not have been the best acting, but me likey.

I had high hopes for this game but it sounds like its not what I had hoped for. I do not want WOW in space. I would have prefered the "party" system to be all on one ship doing different jobs on the ship itself.

I think lots of people wanted a more realistic universe they could inhabit instead of every single player being their own captain with their own ship, etc. but in that kind of a game, where everybody is a crew member, what governs the hierarchy. It's not much fun being Crewman Lopez scrubbing the decks where there aren't even windows to see outside while some other dude gets to be Captain and see everything happening on the bridge.

I wanted what mykalberta suggested, but I completely understand why they did not make it that way. Making a game is all about making money, and the best way to do that, is to make it fun for a wider array of people. I would love to play a bridge officer on a ship of teammates.

Nevertheless, it is a lot of fun.
