Only I.....
could get a freakin speeding ticket for doing 60 in a 50 zone...on my b-day.
I have never had a speeding ticket before but apparently I was the lucky one doing the same speed as everybody else was. Everybody in town drives 60 on that road, it is more like a highway outside of any residential area. I asked him if he could cut me a break as I was just doing the same speed as everyone else and it was my birthday. I received a very cold "no". Just wanted to rant to someone.

If it's only 10 over, just go see the duty Crown, cry a little, and I am sure they'll toss it.

They really need those electronic speed limit signs they have in Germany, attacha photo radar camara to it and then just periodically drop the limit to half what it normally is and chaching until the daily budget is achieved, then resume the speed.
Think of it as a driving surtax.

Those are the worst- especially when the 60 signs are all covered in dirt so you can't quite read them.

I blame the CSIS. They were monitoring you and your quasi terrorist ways and knew this would be the perfect time to catch you off guard.

Just man up and pay it. Or declare yourself a free man on the land.

Happy birthday!
On my 18th birthday my grandma gave me a cheque for $200 as it was a big age to turn. On my way to cash the cheque I was fiddling with the radio and not paying attention. Got caught in a playground zone doing 50. My fine? $190. I'm a moron.

I once got a ticket on Elbow Drive for going 53 in a 50, so there you go.

Isn't Elbow drive mostly a 40 zone? Damn rich people don't like speeders

I call BS - no cop would bother (as it would be tossed) unless you were actually in a PG zone, the 40 zone, or the road conditions were "dangerous"... or you are black and it was the LAPD...

Yeah. I was under the impression tht there's a 10% margin of error if you include the error of both your spedometer and their radar. I though that meant you'll basically never get a ticket if you're doing within 10% over the speed limit (so, 55 in a 50, 88 in an 80, etc.).
Or at least that's what I remember talking about in a Transportation Safety class I once took.

I think if you are within 10km of the limit, you are never getting a ticket, unless there are extenuating circumstances - construction zone or dangerous conditions. If it's a white out, you can get a ticket for doing 75 in an 80 theoretically.

Yea 10 over in a construction or playground zone is double. It's like doing 120 on Deerfoot, they'll pull you over everytime.
But I feel your pain dissentower. I got pulled over yesterday for having tint on my front windows. *facepalm* Best part is - for SOME STUPID REASON, I forgot to put my updated insurance papers in my insurance thing, and got a $175 ticket for not being able to provide proper insurance. Plus the $53 tint ticket. I got my up-to-date papers e-mailed to me so I will be fighting it.
But the cop was pulling me over at 9:30AM on my way to work, to give me a $53 tint ticket?!?! What a waste of time that could have been. Argh.. oh well could have been worse I guess.
Edit: This whole day was beyond bizarre. Off-topic but no where else to share, listen to this:
Bowness trailer park. (I was there to give warning notices for ppl not paying their electricity bill.) I saw 2 dogs humping in the front seat of a pick-up truck. That is by far the most redneck thing I have ever seen in Calgary. I was crying I was laughing so hard.

I know. I asked the cop "How the hell do you expect me to read that on my speedometer?". He gave me a ticket for $70.
I think he pulled me over because he thought I was going to punch it or something when he first saw me.

Just construction zones where there are workers working or passing an emergency vehicle. Playground zone fines aren't double.
