If this is all about fantasy, why make one that talks??

Roxxxy won't be available for delivery for several months, but Hines is taking pre-orders through his Web site, TrueCompanion.com, where thousands of men have signed up. "They're like, 'I can't wait to meet her,' " Hines said. "It's almost like the anticipation of a first date."

It looks like he has a wedding ring. Is he married to the doll or is his real life wife ok with this?
Edit: I missed that part of the article. He is actually married.

Not for a first model. All the customers would be too intimidated by her/it. You have to make a borderline attractive one and then gradually increase the attractiveness with each successive model. Now that's a solid business plan.

It's sad how he creates artificial intelligence, but can't find any use for it except in a sex bot.

It's a fine line though. If you make them too smart, they probably won't sleep with you.

Hey, the porn industry is always the first to maximise the use out of any technology. Take the internet for example.
Or the star trek holodeck.

7 grand could buy a lot of hookers. I don't think this guy's market research is solid.

Oh this is so like a Robot Chicken skit
Scientist - "And it has a nuclear power cell, its fully autonomous, it can do any task that you want it to do . . . "
Reporter - "Can you $$$$ it?"
Scientist - "What!?!"
REporter - "Can you $$$$ it?"
Scientist - "NO!, but think of the world wide applications, and what it can do for mankind"
Reporters all leave.

Sounds pretty solid to me. What does a really cheap hooker cost? $20 for a beej? That robot will pay for itself after the 350th time. Assuming you're desperate enough to buy a 7 thousand dollar sex bot, you're probably desperate enough to buy a hooker every day... this thing will pay for itself in under a year.
Now... assume you can afford a slightly nicer hooker - lets say $200 a go. You're paid off in 35 visits. If you're a once a week type guy, that's only 8 months.
You'll save yourself a pile of cash and probably a couple painful rashes.

*Sigh* Sometimes humanity is sad.
We split the atom but rather than using it to power humanity, we used it to build a way to destroy ourselves.
I love the idea of robots being designed for things that make life better, but all jokes aside, I'm not sure this is the best application of an otherwise terrific technology.
If anything else, funny find OP.
