Default Any other F1 Fans?

I know that F1 (or any motorsport for that matter) are big in Canada, but I know I have started watching it this year, and I have caught the bug.

Anyone else following the season so far this year?

It's already half done, but there for sure will be a new driver and manufacturers champion this year.

And it isn't going to be Ferrari.

I don't often watch motor sports, but when I do, I prefer F1.

This board game simulates F1 racing:

Haha, I think I used to a game very similar to that when I was younger. Along with the electric track cars.

One of cars I had for that track was Jody Sheckter's Ferrari 312T4. Think I had Mario Andretti's black F1 car as well.

Anyway.. the next race is this weekend, in Budapest.
It should be a good one. Looks like it is a very fast track, and it should be the race for a few of drivers to try and make a move towards the driver lead.

Unfortunately, the races are usually on in Canada around 4 or 6 am. But Fox or Speed replays them about 7 or 8 hours after they are run.

The best way to get into a sport is to put money on it. I'm in a pool, and I'm in....something thousandth place. . Lotsa fun though. I'm not doing too bad either (several thousand in the pool)

I've been watching F1 since 1988 when CBC used to air them late at nite. During the best times 1996-2003 i would get up at 6am(europe races) and watch it live.

F1 is sooooooo damn boring now! It's unwatchable if it is not raining. No passing and usually whoever is in the lead from lap 1 will win.

I pvr the races now and i can usually watch a race in 15 minutes. FAST FOWARD!!

Still its better than nascar and cart. Oval racing? really? hehhee

Exactly the same, used to love it when Senna and Prost was having it out but lost interest big time during all the rule changes and the Schumacher/Ferrari era. Races were basically a procession from start to finish with the only exciting part being the first couple of corners and the pit stops and with a bit of luck a random monsoon.

Interest is coming back a bit as it seems to be getting a bit more competitive but I still miss the Senna days when it was anything goes.

You don't get many 4th-1st in one lap these days.

Senna was like Hitler. He got things done. (green before I get jumped on).

Yah, this year seems to be pretty good. Last would have been crazy as well I think, but I didn't watch it.

I remember the season that Villeneuve won the championship to be pretty exciting. Going into the last race, battling it out with Damon Hill in that turn near the end of the race to decide which one would win the season....man that was pretty exciting stuff. That's one of the last fun seasons I remember however.

I'd like to be a bigger F1 fan, but every time i watch these days, it's pretty uneventful. Hardly worth getting up early for.

I have been watching the season this year, stay up all night which I do anyways, so I just go to bed at 8am. Was all Jenson Button in the beginning but he hasn't been doing to well lately. It will be an interesting finish if he can't get things back together.

For those that don't want to stay up and watch it live, they usually replay the race about 8 hours later.

But yah, this year seems to be pretty good. Vettel is only 21 points behind Button, and there are lots of races left. The drivers championship could come down to the last race again.

I use to watch it like a religon. I cant stand nascar anymore with the 3 hour long pre race shows and nascar nazi's all over the place when you bump someone you get a black flag or point deductions.

I like endurance racing. I have been to the 24hours of Daytona that is just flat bad ass.

For those that haven't watched the Hungary race yet, don't read this.. spoilers.

So, interesting race at the Hungaroring. Freak accident during qualifying caused Felipe Massa to crash, and retire from the race all together. A spring from Rubens Barichello's Brawn fell off, and was in the air when Felipe Massa drove into. It cracked his helmet and fractured his skull. Early reports from the hospital are good news, and hopefully Massa will make a full and quick recovery.

On to the race. Hamilton, last years driver champion captures his first win of the season, and placing 4th in qualifying. It looks as though the Mercedes-McLaren team may have a good car once again. Kimi Raikkonen placed second, and Webber following his win in Germany, came in a respectable 3rd.

Fernando Alonso won the poll, and was leading for the first few laps, but during a scheduled pit, a problem occurred, and his right front wheel was not changed properly. Leading to it coming completely off during his next lap. Alonso was able to make back to the pits, but was forced to retire. The loose wheel did not cause any problems to the other races.

Because of this though, the F1 stewards have decided to penalize the Renault team, and force them miss the next race (European GP) in Valencia Spain.

And another interesting note, Toro Rosso called up 19 year old Jaime Alguersuari. He is now the youngest ever to start an F1 race. All in all, he completed the entire race, and actually came ahead of his teammate Sebastien Buemi. Pretty good I think for a kid who has only spent 4 days in the car. He actually was posting lap times that where close to current driver champion Jenson Button.

Driver standings after Hungary:
1st: Button 70
2nd: Webber 51.5
3rd: Vettel 47

Next race, 4 weeks away in Valencia for the European Grand Prix.

Pretty good race. Terrible luck for Alonso, hasn't been good all season, gets poll but because of a pit error tire falls off and it out. Brutal luck. Button continued to stuggle and good to see Lewis with a win finally. He has been at the bottom for nearly every race.

BMW is pulling out of F1 after this season. Toyota and Renault are rumored to also pull out after this year.
