Flames Help with 4on4 Hockey Strategies!

Hey cp!

I've signed up a team of 4 players for the 4on4 Alberta Pond Hockey Tournament up in Peace River next weekend and I'm very pumped up about it.

www.albertapondhockey.com

I've never actually played an "official" game of ice hockey before, nor have most of my team mates (Although we have all played ball hockey). What I would like some help with is maybe giving me an idea of what kind of formations, tactics, and strategies I should have my team playing in order to be the most successful. Note that my team is relatively inexperienced and that there are no goalies. The net is regular width, but only 6 Inches high or something. Checking scores from last years tournament, they were on average like 30-16 type games.

Since the games are such high scoring affairs with no goalies, i'm thinking that maybe running a system with one D and three forwards? Having two wingers low and a center high and when the other team has the puck the center will drop back and act as a D? What do you guys think?

Is there any website out there that can teach me about ice hockey offensive and defensive strategies? I have basic knowledge, mostly through NHL PS3 games and watching tons of hockey - but i know that actually playing is very different than just watching and analyzing.

Any and all help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

I think in this case the diamond formation would be the best option available.

Alright. So basically kinda what I was thinking except the two wingers would always jump back to help the D - and the one forward ready for a break out pass?

yes, basically have your most creative but slowest guy being your C, with the fastest guys being the wingers so they can quickly transition from offense to defense.
