After three games he has 0+2, is -2 and has ~14 mins ice time per game. It was very bad timing to join struggling TPS right now since injuries on back-end are totally killing them and goaltenders are constantly giving up four goals per game. Painful to see Berg playing through injury. He looks same like he did in NHL, brutal. Okey, that's enough of Berg allthough it's always good time to bash him.
With limited viewing (2 games) here's rude scouting report.
+ Effective stick work
+ Gives good and hard opening passes
+ Though not being overly skilled he has good poise with the puck and is not afraid to make extra move to shake off from forechecker.
+ Right now his skating is OK but he has potential to be good skater if he works on particular little things in stride/stance and adds leg strength.
- Inconsistency
- Positioning. This is weird. He seems to defend man-to-man though it's very rare defence system and it's definitely not TPS's system. This hasn't cost him yet and telling the truth he has done good job taking out his own man but his teammates are losing battles and Johnsson should at least try to cover their mistakes.
- Lack of vision. The prior minus might be cause of this.
- Dion like "lazy" style to defend. Not aggressive and maybe little soft.
Two games is small sample and this scouting report may change a lot when I get more viewings on him. Too early to comment on his offensive game, shot etc. details because he's playing in limited role with no PP time (nor PK time). He's on his way to deserve more ice time and maybe contract for rest of the season.
After two viewings and comments from other fans I think he can be solid D-man for TPS but that's pretty much it. He didn't show anything special potential-wise why the Flames should sign him. Given our present D-prospect crop and depth in AHL it's guaranteed there's no place for Per Johnsson.
