Jack Layton - Seriously ill
http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/a...-as-ndp-leader
Suspected Prostate Cancer. While I definately do not agree with his politics he has done a good job of bringing the NDP out of the fringes of Canadian Politics.
Get well soon Jack.

get your DRE annually if you ar 50 years+; 40-45 if there is a family history or you are in a high risk group. Prostate cancer is one of the most easy to treat IF it is caught early

Can't just wish him well and leave it at that? I'm not rushing out to vote for him either, but least leave the politics out while he's fighting this!

My intent wasn't to start a political squabble. I've always believed that Jack while aspiring to unrealistic policy concepts has his heart in the right place and really serves his voters well.
Out of the three leaders that we have, I have to admit that I admire Layton's integrity a little bit more.
Plus he saved that party from the absolute lunatic fringe.

Yeah, politics aside he's unquestionably a patriot and a guy who's worked tirelessly for his vision of Canada. Here's hoping he makes a strong recovery.

Get well Jack. Even I would never vote for him anymore, but this is about a guy fighting cancer and I wish him a strong recovery.

definitely not a fan of the NDP at all, but I have always liked Layton
He just has that right type of charisma and attitude that it takes to be a good leader
hopefully he gets well soon

He's a doofus but I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
It reminds me of Lucien Bouchard getting flesh-eating disease . . . . . at the time, as leader of the Parti Quebecois, he was Canada's worst enemy but I don't think anyone would wish flesh-eating disease on their worst enemy.

Way to be on the ball CTV - "its going to be some press release about his ailing back we thing" Rob Fife - CTV YOW Bureau Chief. Its no wonder I occasionally watch CBC for my Canadian politics news.
I was all ready with old person and their back jokes.
Prostate cancer doesnt translate as well into jokes imo.

I would make the assumption that wishing him well would be a given.
If somebody wanted to wish him well wouldn't his website be a really good place to do that?
Iam sure you are aware that if you want to "leave the politics out of it" you are more than welcome to, and not comment on my post, and just leave your wishes.

From one of the only NDP supporters on CP:
Get well soon Jack! I wish you a speedy and complete recovery!
As an aside, I have few delusions that the NDP is likely to form the government any time soon but I do believe Jack Layton is a good leader and a good speaker. He is an asset to the NDP and to Canadian politics.

As a fellow NDP supporter, I am split. My first reaction to hearing that he is going to stay on as leader while he fights for his life was "Awesome. The NDP needs his strong leadership and ferocious, infectious attitude." It's that attitude that was missing with Audrey and Alexa. But then I thought of how selfish that was and that maybe Jack would be better off taking some time off to put his health first and foremost. Can you imagine how tiring it would be if there were another election coming in the next year? And with the polls where they are, that might be a probability more than a possibility.

So if one was to go to the doctor to get checked for prostate cancer, what is the procedure? A scope? Are you awake for this, or do they/can they put you under for it?
All the best to Jack Layton and family. I think if nothing else, a high profile person getting cancer brings more awareness to the problem and the need for I guess both screening and treatment developments.

The initial screening is the PSA test, which is a simple blood test which is usually done during routine blood work. If you have a family history of prostate cancer, they don't charge you for it.
Its amazing how common this cancer is, even among people who pay close attention to diet and fitness. Get well soon Jack...

Having family members who have had cancer, there are few scarier times in life than that initial moment in the doctor's office.
Hopefully he has a speedy recovery, in part because the topic head "Jack Layton - Seriously Ill" is screaming out for some photoshopping.

I'm sorry. Here we'll change it too "He has cancer, but that's not a very serious illness so it's cool."
