Default Strange old people medications and treatments

Everyone has that grandma or mom or just any random old person that knows how (or thinks they know how) to fix you in the strangest ways.

My grandma thinks that water from the mountains in Lebanon helps with her diabetes.

Anyone else have a grandma or relative that uses weird methods for medications or treatments?

My grandma likes this liquid tiger balm stuff you buy at china town somewhere. Weird weird stuff... pretty much is menthol but treats it like the greek of windex.

When we were kids and we had a cold, Grandma would secretly pour a bunch of peppermint schnaps on some ice cream for us to eat.

While it might not have made us better, we suddenly didn't care about feeling sick and took 12 hour naps.

To that generation liquor cured everything.

I played a hockey tournament in her home town and I took a hit did an header and broke my wrist and I swear that I was completely drunk for the next week.

Funny...Ive met more young people who try to sell snake oil cures than old people. Look at the advent of cure all clinics these days...they are everywhere.

Your right about that, think of all the pills, potions, creams and supplements that will fix anything.

My grandpa thinks that freezing tap water and then drinking it when it's thawed out is good for you. In my family we do this weird thing when you get a cold, where you keep your feet in a very hot foot bath. It actually seems to work quite well.

The "green" people have some pretty interesting ideas. Ick. I can't recall any odd folk remedies from my grandparents, etc. But when I was growing up I was prone to strep throat. Had it several times but the doc refused to remove my tonsils, which seemed odd to a lot of people.

That reminds me of my parents pouring Creme De Menthe on our vanilla ice cream as a kid. It was a tasty treat but I don't think I ever consciously felt any alcoholic effects. Wouldn't have been a large amount they put on.
