Calgary Sun Story

Now I'm as sorry as anyone to see this place shut down purely for nostalgic reason. It was the first bar I ever went to where I had my first beer. And an unreal place to see some great live music.

But I find it hard to believe that some people are upset about being kicked out. I understand that this is their home and all but when you are talking about the level of mould and infestation that is present in this place now the city really had no choice. Frankly it should have been shut down months ago.

None the less a sad moment for anyone that spent a druken night at the Eddy.

It was a house of Blues, but wasn't it a peeler bar at one time as well?

The City gave the tenants $1000 each for the inconvenience.

The problem is that the people that inhabit the East Village need somehwere to go. If the City goes ahead with a massive redevelopment of the area it will push the homeless people, prostitutes, etc into other areas - likely Inglewood/Ramsey or Bridgeland.

The City needs to think more long-term in terms of how to solve some of the underlying problems in the inner city - lack of affordable housing, drugs, etc. Putting a "fresh coat of paint" over the East Village will only create more problems in my view, or at the least move those problems into someone else's neighbourhood.

Yeah I don't know why people are so upset abould leaving their rat and cockroach infested homes that have toxic mold growing everywhere. Its for their own safety and they did they $1,000 bucks for the inconvinience. However, they did have to sign a waiver saying they would not pursue any claims against the City in the future.

I remember going to the king eddie and seeing a dude in a wheelchair dance as good as any person with two working legs. That sold it for me, the king eddie was cool. It did have a few too many scrubs and bikers but I enjoyed myself there the few times I checked it out. Good blues music for sure.
