The Vice Guide to North Korea
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
quite surreal to see a modern society that's completely cutoff from the rest of the world. it really is like going into a time machine back to the 1950's Soviet Union

I have seen that before, it is an awesome documentary. It is such a strange situation. The good news is that when NK tried to devalue the currency the people stood up to Kim Jung Il. Hopefully that means that changes are coming.

Yup changes are coming, Kim Jung Il will die and his son Kim Jung-un will take his place.
If North Korean's think their lives are bad just wait until his 25 year old son takes over

Quote:
At first glance, testimony from Kim's former sushi chef Kenji Fujimoto portrays Jong-un to be a lot like his father:As a boy, Jong-un drove a Mercedes Benz with specially adapted pedals and seat around the grounds of Kim Jong-il’s home. He liked Chinese food and sushi, especially squid and the finest cuts of tuna. He used to smoke Mr. Fujimoto’s menthol cigarettes.
“If power is to be handed over then Jong-un is the best for it,” Mr. Fujimoto said. “He has superb physical gifts, is a big drinker and never admits defeat.”

The NK army has already sworn loyalty to the next leader of North Korea. He's already been given the name "Brilliant Comrade"

That was cool, thanks OP.
You have to admit that took huge balls. I can't believe how much footage they were actually able to take and get away with it.

It is a cult. A nationwide cult. Plain and simple
BTW* They have quite a few mistakes. Freedom bridge which you see first before they go to Panmunjeom (not check point charlie...thats Germany) is a full 4 km behind the boarder. Total tourist trap.
The huge flag pole you see later is actually the world's largest flag pole. Bit of a Dick measuring contest between the N and S.
Did you notice how small the soldiers were?

The documentaries are really eye opening.
The website/design is horrible though, i gave up trying to view the Liberia clips in order, and still not able to find 5/8, 6/8, 7/8 and 8/8.

What a creepy place.
It's sad to think that those people are born into and die under such a crazy regime and probably go their whole lives not knowing what is being kept from them and why.
Anyway, I heard on the radio this morning that VBS and CNN are getting together. Some of those VBS docs (including the NK one) will be going up on CNN.com, and they might work together on future projects. Quite a coup for them. CNN gets something like 16 million unique visitors a month while VBS does, well, not.

I remember seeing a different documentary and they said South Korea will select the tallest, most athletic looking soldiers for the border to make it seem like South Koreans are bigger.
In that same documentary, in the conference room or whatever on the border, they were passing information on regarding I believe a dead North Korean to the North Korea officers. When opening the door one soldier would reach out to unlock the door and pass the document through while another soldier held onto him. They were worried the North Koreans might grab the soldier.

As true as that is, I remember reading a study that on average South Korean soldiers were about 2 inches taller and 20 pounds heavier then the equivalent NK solider. Even though the army is by NK standards very well fed their diet leaves a lot to be desired.

Just like you don't want to stick your head up when your working the DMZ, some North Korean sniper might blow your head completely off.

I've also heard that the latest revaluing of the North Korean currency was his brilliant idea
