Don't count on it yet - this is Marty York speaking here, and he's correct about rumours as much as the Eklund the blogger is.
Wait until the Stamps actually have Hank's name on a contract!

With the Burris signing imminent, the Stamps likely will release quarterback Khari Jones

sould try and trade the guy, get something of value...might be hard/have to eat up some of his contract, but it's probably better than all out releasing him

Especially considering the quality that was given up to get him.

ain't that trade looking good now!
Wes Lysack, Joe Flemming (granted, he wouldn't FA sign here anyways), and Regimbald for....Randy Bowles
essentially gave up Lysack

True enough but since the deal was made by the previous management what can you do.
The right thing to do is release Jones. Give him a chance to go to another club. Your not going to get anything in return for him with that contract. Release him and move on.

Exactly Jiri - it seemed ok at the time...but hindsight's 20/20, so it looks not so good now.
But yea, releasing him is the right thing to do (but trying to sucker a team into accepting that contract would be better) - it sucks, but that's pro sports.

I'm not sold on Burris.
I think he has the potential and similar physical and style charcateristics of Jones. But Jones has done it and seen it all in the CFL, being the League MVP.
Problem is, Burris hasn't done it and seen it all, and only had 2.5 REAL CFL seasons.
Both guys are making the same wage IIRC.
The gamble is, is can he be as good as Jones was, and how long (if ever) will it take him to be potential league MVP?
vs.
Can Jones rekindle some of his skills in a new environemnt and offense scheme..he should have a couple decent seasons left in him physically

I think either way it's a bit of risk. I'm not SOLD on Burris either and the one thing I don't like about this is the amount of money he will be getting. However, if you weigh one risk against the other, I don't recall Burris having any significant injury history and he's 4 years younger, so hopefully those things will work in our favour.

yea - the big thing with Burris is a) potential - like how he was at the end of last season...then again, Crandell had a good last few games of 2001 and look where he ended up, b) age - 4 years younger than Khari = good thing, c) doesn't have a recurring shoulder injury like Khari. Is he worth 400k? Probably not, but I think weighing those things out looks better for the long term of the QB situation.

To me neither of these guys seem WORTH the money they are getting. I don't think Jones is worth the 350,000 he is slated to get if he stays with the Stamps. He is a good QB but I think that shoulder problem will hurt him throughout the entire season.
Burris is not worth 400,000 dollars. But he is younger and there is potential there. And to tell you the truth, I really trust Barker making the right moves for this franchise. The man knows what to look for in a football player.

Burris is the best guy available. Also, I am not sure if you remeber him in his Calgary days, but I remember being pretty impressed from what he did during his short stint with us. Ever since he has left he really hasn't done anything impressive but I truly believe that he has the potential to take us into the playoffs...
Alongside with the other signings I am pumped for the Stamps this year! Can't wait till the season gets going
