Default Medical Insurance in the USA

So we have just finalized the purchase of a place in Montana and we’re going to start looking into out of Country medical insurance. Now I do have out of country coverage of $250k with my work benefits for my family and myself but want to get an additional medical insurance policy over and above that.

Does anyone out there have any experience or recommendations where one could find a policy for out of country insurance ?

Check if your work insurance is reimbursement or not.

It's a small detail that makes a huge difference if you ever need to use it.

Thanks for asking! I looked into it and this is what I found.

Many claims incurred internationally will need to be paid up front by the employee at the provider’s request. ACE USA will then reimburse you based on your schedule of benefits. If you desire, the provider can be paid directly by ACE USA if you choose this method of reimbursement.
It’s kind of confusing, if they can pay direct to a provider would they not be able to make any payment upfront that is requested ?

Sent you a PM.

Best to contact your provider and ask these questions beforehand.

Like DoubleK says it is best to call and check.

That reads to me that you need to pay up front and get reimbursed, unless you contact them first and request pay direct.

You can also get an ongoing emergency medical coverage. It covers multiple trips per year and might fit the bill. It’s only for emergencies though, and wouldn’t cover you with things like routine doctor appointments or things like that.

This is sounds about right, we wouldn’t be going for regular checkups but are in Montana 3/4 weekends a month and would need it only if an emergency were to arise.

Thanks for your help everyone.

I have a yearly travel insurance policy which is good for trips up to a month in duration (approximately $275.00 per year). You can go down south as many times a year as you would like, but you have to cross the border back into Canada at least once a month. When we were going to Arizona for the winter, we would stay down there for 5 months. So, what we had to do, was get insurance for all the days we stayed down there after the first month - it was approximately $10 per day (so approximately $1,200 for the extra 4 months).

We got our travel insurance here in Canada (including the extra insurance for staying there for the extra 4 months)

Are you interested in r-o—c-k in the u-s-a? Or just medical insurance?
