Default Lenders foreclose on Intrawest

How good does this look just before the Olympics.

"owners of Whistler/Blackcomb"

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/repor...rticle1437922/

In a Russell Peter's skit voice " Somebody gonna get a-hurt real bad."

You should change the thread title and add "owners of Whistler/Blackcomb". I was like "Intrawho?"

But otherwise, it's lame that they plan on holding an auction during the Olympics.

I've got a bad feeling about the Olympics.

If you own whistler, why would you be buying up fringe properties in the USA.

Its probably very likely the company over leveraged itself to buy up all these resorts.

Ya, they also own Panorama and Mt. Tremblanc.

Apparently there is a local group buying Panorama however

They had a great vision, and put together quality resorts, but they certainly didn't have the capital to extend themselves like they have. I'm worried about what will happen to Panorama when it gets sold off.

This has been brewing for a long time now and most thought it would have happened last year. Bad timing that it's happening right before the Olympics, but it shouldn't have any effect on the games.

They are in Vancouver. What could possibly go wrong?

Actually, I suspect the games will be fine, all things considered.

Why? Just because it's 10 degrees C now and that's about the coldest it's been in a month?

There was a Chinook throughout the Calgary Olympics which didn't help the skiing events either but things got done. I'm sure Whistler will be okay.

Crazy. I love Panorama... hope it doesn't change too much if/when it gets sold off.

I don't think whistler will be the issue if there is one. However Cypress Mountain could be a very tricky venue if it's 10 degrees in Vancouver during the olympics.

That may not be a bad thing. Intrawest did some good things for it's growth, but local ownership is generally more in tune with the community using the hill.

Actually, there wasn't. The Olympics started with a chinook then ended with bitter cold. The entire world got to see a typical Calgary winter.

Default Panorama

My Father in Law knows one of the major investors and having met him a few times I can verify that if they he indeed is part of the investment group with a major stake the resort will only improve from where it is right now.

Maybe someone will finally listen to our suggestion of moving that ski/clothing shop out of the main lodge and expanding the eating area. Why they didn't build the lodge on 2 levels with a Pub on top is beyond me

On nice days we no longer eat at the lodge we take our lunch and eat at the top of Tayton where the view is amazing. Plus as soon as your done eating you can drop into the Steeps

Yes, you are crazy for loving Panorama

I always have fun there, and the villiage is decent, but the skiing/boarding is an afterthought. Bringing skates to that hill would be the most suitable equipment choice... until the bushes and rocks sticking out of the 'snow' get you.
