wocka wocka wocka- The Muppets has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes/Christmas Movie Season
Not saying I live and die by Rotten Tomatoes, but I was a little shocked to see this. I grew up on the muppets, but haven't been impressed with the franchise since The Muppet Christmas Carol about 20 years ago. I had no intention of seeing this new one, but will definitely be going now. Anyone else surprised?
Martin Scorcese's Hugo also has a 97% on RT, and it looks like a fantastic flick. A lot of promising flicks coming out during the holiday season including Mission Impossible 4, Tintin, War Horse, Sherlock Holmes 2, and this Dragon Tattoo thing my wife keeps going on about.
Ps. The trailer alone for Speilberg's "War Horse" may be enough to make a grown man cry...

I took my kids to The Muppets wednesday afternoon. They're ages 6 and 4, and weren't really familiar with them at all. They loved the movie, and I enjoyed it as well.
Some of the cameos are great, there are plenty of funny references to the 70's-80's and the Muppet movies of the past. I recommend it to parents with young kids, and really for anyone that has ever enjoyed the Muppets.
I saw it with my daughter today. Not the greatest movie EVER, but really fun, and definitely worth seeing in theaters. My daughter loved it, and I thought it was a lot of fun.
I heard Jason Segal is pretty bad in it and that it is an average movie. I never watched The Muppets and don't really understand the hype, but from the reviews I listened to, they said that it's at 97% on RT pretty much for the nostalgia factor and nothing else.
It's a pretty cruddy season for Holiday movies imo. Nothing really jumps out at me.
I already saw Hugo which is a very good movie. It's not for everyone, and I did have some problems with it (the Ben Kingsley revelation is a bit too simplistic), but it was very well done. Sadly it looks like Hugo will tank at the box office, and with its 170 million dollar budget, it will not get the audience it deserves.
Sherlock Holmes looks like a replica of the first one, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Guy Ritchie usually makes interesting movies, and RDJ and Jude Law are great at playing off one another. I also like that they thought outside the box for the role of James Moriarty (choosing the guy from Fringe), but it doesn't seem like he plays a major role in the movie which is too bad.
I am a huge fan of the first Million Impossible movie, didn't like the second, and felt the third was just okay. The forth one has an interesting cast, but I want to see how Brad Bird does in taking over the franchise.
Tintin and War Horse both look like crap. Not sure what Spielberg is up to, as neither film looks interesting. I find it hard to believe there is a major demand for a Tintin movie, and that War Horse was even directed by Spielberg. War Horse almost seems like a straight to DVD movie with a mediocre cast.
This is the same person who directed Saving Private Ryan, but now he's settled on doing an over sentimental schmaltzy horse movie for preteen girls? I can't get over that. Spielberg helped revolutionize the medium, but he has fallen a great deal in the last decade. I have high hopes for the Lincoln movie out next year, but for a guy who seemed to only hit home runs for a period, Spielberg sure seems to strike out more often than not these days.
I do want to see Dragon Tattoo though, as Fincher knows how to make an effective movie. I didn’t love Social Network, but it was very well made and I did find it overall enjoyable. Not sure if they can top the original, but it’s going to be interesting to see.
Overall though, I am looking forward to 2012 more than anything at the moment (Dark Knight Rises, Avengers, Lincoln, and The Hobbit). My favorite movie of 2011 thus far is probably Drive, which means it couldn’t have been a great year for movies.

Good times.
I was thinking of taking my two kids to it also, ages 3 and 5. Is there any part that is somewhat intense?
By intense, I mean I had to hold and comfort my 3 year old during parts of Cars 2 (especially when some cars get killed) even though he is a huge fan of the Cars franchise, from watching the first Cars about a hundred times. I'd rather not repeat that experience.

Maybe one or two slightly "scary" sequences, but they're not overly long. My daughter also gets scared easily (and was also scared during Cars 2), and she wasn't bothered at all.
I thought Segal played his character as it was intended to be played, a cheesy overacting small town yokel. It's a musical.
If you're in your late 20's(?) or younger and you didn't grow up with the muppets, it is true you may not enjoy the movie as much as the generations before and after you that it is geared toward.
Edit: No, I didn't recall anything that scared my 4 year old.

I thought this would be much better and didn't realize it was a musical till it was too late.
Weren't all the Muppet movies more or less musicals? I remember watching a Muppt Christmas Carol last year thinking there was more music in it than I remember.
Still remember the start of the first muppet movie with a ton of fondness
Nothing chokes me up, but 2 things....
The end of Homeward bound, the incredible journey....
And this song.
I cannot listen to that song without choking up or dribbling a tear or two. The song just coveys so much hope and optimism. Hard to believe I was 5 years old when that came out... I still remember the 3 days of anticipation and excitement to go see this movie with my family, and then getting the VHS for Christmas/Chanukah a year later and watching it until the tape had the consistency of tissue paper.. Great memories.
It's the Muppets....there is going to be musical numbers. If you didn't expect it you didn't grow up with them and likely will not have the same fondness for the movie.
My 3 and 5 year old loved it. Especially the 5 year old who was glued to the screen the entire show (she also "crammed" for the last couple of weeks by watching the third season of the Muppet show....the season with Alice Cooper as one of the special guests).
Bad acting? no. Cheesy acting that intentionally isn't taking itself seriously. It's very nudge nudge wink wink.
Highly recommended as a family movie. Especially for those that grew up watching the Muppet show and first couple of Muppet movies.

I'll admit, I teared up with this song. I've never been taken back to being a kid as much as I did in the 2 minutes of Rainbow Connection.
By the way, I (and most of the packed theatre at Chinook) were laughing a lot during this movie. Loved the Jim Henson lightpole flag tribute throughout the second half.
9.5/10 for me. Nostalgia + great movie.

If you like that CC there is a scene in the Muppet Movie that will reduce you to tears!
Or at least it might... I dunno... someone was obviously cutting onions in the theatre when I saw it.
There did a great job with the movie, and all the cameos really speaks to the legacy of the Muppets. It really had a different feel from things of the past.. which might be a good thing. They will need to adapt to move forward, but I have faith and hope they become as popular as ever again. Would love for my kids to be able to grow up to bad Fozzi jokes and Gonzo's fetish with Chickens.
