Fido/Rogers/SE k850i help suggestions

Guys,

I have a SE k850i that i've used for the last 2 or so years. It was bought online and is unlocked. I don't have a contract and I am currently with Fido.

My current monthly bill is around $40-45. 100 daytime minutes, unlimited text, evenings and weekends, voice mail, caller id, etc. I use about 200 minutes a month. 100 daytime and 100 evening and weekend.

My k850i decided not to work anymore. It freezes on startup and just lights up and doesn't do anything else. I have researched this problem at howard forums described here:

and I have tried the firmware update, but it fails every time, so i'm guessing i'm hooped. I will call SE later today to see what they have to say but i'm not holding my breath.

So if I can't get the thing working I need a new phone, and i'm taking suggestions for that.

I'm thinking it may be worth my while to swtich to rogers for an iphone. 32gb with 3 yr plan is $299 which isn't bad. What kind of terms do you guys have with your iphones? Paying around $80/month? I'm not sure $80 is worth it for me. I just looked at the Fido site and they offer Iphones as well. So what's the difference? Just plans? Anyone use an iphone with fido? It's probably exactly the same as rogers.

Any suggestions if I should stick with Fido, or look at Rogers instead? And suggest what phones I should be looking at? I wou;dn't mind getting something at the higher end of the scale. Whether or not I need all the gadgets I haven't decided yet though.

Are you month to month or near the end of a contract? I had Fido before for about 8 years and the per-second billing makes a difference. Reason why I left for Rogers is I wanted a Blackberry and Fido wasn't offering at the time.

Call Fido Customer Relations/Retention and see what they can do for you.

For reference, my old plan at Fido had:

1000 eve/weekends
caller ID
unlimited incoming
local fido to fido/rogers/rogers home
no sms though

Paid about $27 tax in. Depending how good a negotiator you are, you could get a voice/1GB data plan for around $50-60.

I'm on month to month. No contract. But I never had a contract because I had an unlocked phone. Wow, $27 for that is a deal.

Can anyone give me some advice on this plan they offered me:

I said I want an iphone plan similar to my current plan plus data.

100 daytime minutes
unlimited evening and weekends
unlimited text
call display
voice mail
(this is basically the $25 package + $10 value pack for VM and caller ID)

I'm paying about $35 right now before tax for this plan. Then usually around 40-45 with long distance sometimes.

They offered to tack on the $25 500mb data plan to this to equal $60. I asked him if there was anything else he could do and he said he could give me a recurring discount of $5. So it would be $55 for my current deal and data.

Basically i'm getting the $25 data pack for $20 and adding this onto my current account.

Can I do better?

I asked him to cut it down to $50 but he said that's not possible.
