WEEK 4: Riders at STAMPEDERS
1st game of the season between the rivals Saskatchewan vs Calgary. Riders are 3-0 right now while the Stamps are 2-1 after a heartbreaking lost to Toronto.
Last game against the Argos were just brutal overall. Both the defense and the offense made so many mistakes after mistakes, penalties after penalties. Don't forget the drop balls as well and the turnovers. The game could have won blew up in their face after mistakes by the offense, defense and the coaching staff.Maybe playing against a better team will help the Stamps better played mentally.
QUARTERBACK: Henry Burris were just awful last game throwing 4 INTs and he also didn't get the offense to stay on the field longer late in the game. But we cannot blame Burris for his bad plays. Receivers are dropping the balls like a bomb just hit them. Some of them just plain bad doing their routes. Offensive Lines didn't give him much time to pick and choose his receivers as well.
RUNNING BACK: I don't think Reynolds were used much against the Argos. They pretty much abandon the run attack.
OFFENSIVE LINE: Offensive LInes had some ups and down last game. They didn't deliver when they are needed late in the game. They better have a better game against the Riders; otherwise we might start seeing some changes soon.
RECEIVERS: Might be a good news in this game. Ken-Yon Rambo thinks he will be able to play on Saturday against the Riders. Coach Huf is not a 100% Rambo will play. I guess it will be up to today's practice(Wednesday) and practices before game day. If Rambo looks fit, he'll definitely play. With Rambo coming back, it looks like JJ will sit again and maybe another import receiver. Romby Bryant had some drop passes again last week. He better start hanging in to the ball or else we will see boo-birds in the stand soon. I am not sure I am sold at PK Sam being our starting slotback yet. The guy need to put a better effort ie: coming back to the ball vs the Riders. Come on people STOP DROPPING THE BALLS!!
DEFENSIVE LINEMEN: The line were not dominant last game. Argos ran over them for over 100 yards and Cleo Lemon didn't have a lot of pressures. Although Labinjo survived after last week, he might be the odd man out this weekend. Hufnagel would like to try out Robert McCume on the line instead of staying in usual LB position. I am sure Clybrooks will come back to the roster after sitting out the Argos game. The Line need to be better against Wes Cates, Charles and QB Durant. Aside from giving up those yardage in rushing, they were actually not bad BUT of course they need to be better.
LINEBACKING: Linebackers were so-so as well vs the Argos. They need to play better next game. Malik Jackson played his best game last season against the Riders so maybe a repeat performance will be in the works.
DEFENSIVE BACKS: I think they played well enough last game. Milton Collins left late in the game. The energetic youngster Brandon Isaac replaced him and had a QB sack right away. Brandon Browner were tested by Lemons a few times last game and he answered the bell. He had one INT. The one thing that will stick to our mind was the gamble he made late in the game. He went after the ball but missed. If he got that INT, noone can stop him from scoring a TD. Unfortunately he missed and an Argos receiver got the ball and Argos scored after that. I can't say I blame the guy for trying. I would have done the same if I was him.
SPECIAL TEAM: It's sad when the best group position for the team was the Special Team. Rookie Eric Fraser had an awesome game. He had 3 special team tackle and he forced Punter Jamie Boreham with a turnover on down. MCCartney, Simpson and Phillips played well on special team as well.
THE OPPOSITION: Riders didn't really dominate on their 3 wins. On their 2 wins the other team actually beat themselves with their mistakes. They beat the Als in OT in the first game. They could have lose that game but Als just made so many mistakes especially late in the game. Against the Eskimos, Esks receiver Campbell dropped the ball at the wrong time. I can see the Stamps handing the Riders their first lost this season.
More update before Game Time on Saturday, July 24 at 7:30pm McMahon Stadium.
GO STAMPS GO!!

Apparently Bryant and Franklin have spent extra time during practice this week catching balls. Based on Al Cameron's blog, Huff has been trying numerous different personal formations, based on the number of Canadians etc. It would sure be nice to see Rambo get back in there but I have the feeling it will be another week yet before he plays.

According to the Herald, Rambo is leaning towards playing next game after the Riders' game (July 31st) instead of this Saturday. Rambo sat out yesterday's practice and I believed Huf mentioned Rambo needs to have 3 solid practice before the Riders' game in order for Rambo to play.
Offensive Line Godfrey Ellis on the other will play his first game in the season replacing the injured Gott.

Al Cameron has confirmed this morning that Rambo will not play tomorrow night. The Stamps really miss his big play ability.

Can't really see us winning as the Riders seem to be rolling right now and I don't think the Stamps have got everything together yet.
I hope they use Joffrey more this game though, I can't believe they weren't running the ball when up by 11 (I think it was) last game...horrible play calling.

Riders have actually looked beatable in two of their three games. Montreal was blowing them out and then let their foot off the gas and their secondary gave up a bunch of deep plays that the Stampeders will not likely give up. The Eskimos really should have beat them last week but they fumbled the game away. If the Stampeders click on offense and the defence can limit the big plays they have a chance.
We should know pretty early if it's going to be close or not. If Frank shows up early like last week it will be a blowout win for the Riders. If Hank shows up for most of the game they have a chance. I think the Riders will win but it could be very close.

I agree with some of the posters here. Both teams would have been 0-3 or 3-0 so far. Both the Riders and the Stamps were so inconsistent on at least 2 games. Riders were so llucky to beat Montreal after training them before the end of the game. Adainst the Eskies, they were lucky as well especially when Campbell could have gotten an easy TD but drop the ball. After that, the Eskies just practically collapse. Stamps on the other hand let an easy win go against the Argos and they weren't that good against the Cats. I hate to say this but the 2 Riders fan that I know at this casino keep mouthing off but they are not willing to bet with me.
Stamps will win this game and they will wake up.

Ken Yon-Rambo will not be playing tonight. Robert McCune will line up as a Defensive End instead of his usual Linebacking position. R Ron Kelly, and DE Fernand Kashama both released this week.
Burris usually have a slow start every season so I am hoping playing against the Riders will get him going.
Seems like everytime the Stamps play the Riders receivers Andy Fantuzs, Chris Getzlaf and Dressler usually have a good game. Can the Stamps stop them? I really think they can but it has to start at QB Darian Durant. If the DLine pressured Durant all night and not let him have time to look for the receivers those 3 will not be a factor.
GO STAMPS GO!!!
Game starts at 7:30pm at McMahon Stadium. The game will be televised at TSN all over Canada. I am sure the game will be in full capacity so TSN will lift the blackout in Calgary.

Don't get me wrong, I want the stamps to win...just not expecting it.
I can't even remember the offense with Rambo in it, he's been out that long. Really miss the deep threat he provides though!

Even if and when Rambo comes back you gotta think it'll take him more than a few games to get back in game shape and his confidence over his injury.

Sounds like there is way more green than red at tonight's game. That's according to Murray McCormick.

But I've been to about a dozen Riders/Stamps games and not one of them has had close to a 50/50 split.
