how easy is it to install this unit and can someone do it themselves or should a mechanic do it?

Its incredibly easy. Just plug it into the OBII port and install the software, you need to run a tiny wire through a gromet in the firewall to the fuse box to power the unit. Also includes a pyrometer which you can install in the exhaust manifold to work the EGT gauge.

What do you see from a mileage shift?

10-15% better fuel mileage depending on the tune. I get about 19-21 mpg highway on my truck with it on the 130hp tune.
