For sports news or presumably sports gossip news?

Or are they just going to dedicate it to Tiger Woods.

This could be really fun. Legitimate media have long had an unspoken agreement not to crap where they sleep by protecting players and teams from unwanted attention. Having a third party that isn't worried about losing media credentials or pissing off players would certainly change the balance.

What an awful, awful idea. Women might be interested in the private lives of athletes, but men aren't.

Then again, looking at the Tiger Woods thread, it appears as though we've all become gossip queens.

Yeah, doing a really good job providing a service there is obviously a market for is terrible.

I don't really see the logic of your post in response to mine. But then again. The people who have created the market for TMZ and those kinds of people can go to hell too.

Why should they go to hell? People want celebrity news. TMZ provides it. Celebrities need publicity to maintain their lifestyle. TMZ provides it. It's the circle of life my friend.

Fair enough. Get some celebrity news. Follow the rules of being appropriate and it is all fine. But then hounding the celebrities while not following the rules of appropriate behavoir is what I mean when I say they should go to hell.

Please don't try to defend these people. They are scum.

Hello Deadspin???? They've been doing this for years with humor and a minimal amount of sleaze.

Ya sites like Deadspin and TheBigLead have been basically the sports TMZ for the last few years

I would disagree on the lack of sleaze though, both run stuff that is very sleazy

Sleaze in this realm is relative, I'd say that deadspin is clean as a whistle relative to the lies of TMZ. Deadspin has paid for photos once in the history of the site (Josh Hamilton) while the whole stalking and catching celebs in bad situations move seems to be the business model for TMZ. I guess for me the sites that stick with reporting largely the hypocrisy and idiocy of sports without resorting to 'catch you with your pants down' tactics are a little more legit, or at least more entertaining.
