not big news per se...
but each sport has its own culture. Rugby tends to be one of the more macho ones in my experience. I'd also hypothesize that the more macho the sport, the bigger the name that has to blaze the trail.
He's done it for Rugby. Good on 'em

I always wonder how many pro athletes are gay actually. Or if they are, whether their team mates know and how they feel about it. I actually remember when working at Bell about a year ago a pro athlete that I won't name actually made a pass on one of my obviously gay co-worker. He basically got rejected, but I always wondered afterwards how many of these guys are closet homosexuals.

TBQH I hope the NHL keeps any gay-ness under wraps. I don't hate gays, but I feel we are bombarded enough with gay culture through other media sources, Adam Lambert being one of many examples........

When will the first straight athlete come out of the closet. We all assume they are, but who knows. No matter what or who he decieds to fcuk anyone should keep it to themselves, why anyone believes they are important enough that they need to announce that is beyond me.

I fail to see how a gay NHL player coming out of the closet would be result in us being bombarded with gay culture. At least not any more than all the Tiger Woods stories are bombarding us with straight culture.
