I am going to do a fondue/hot pot thing. In the past going to buddy's hot pots, they would get all the asian ingredients.
I have been to T&T and it is pretty much a baffling ordeal since I have no idea what anything means or what to buy.
Where do I get that super thinly sliced beef and all those other tasty hot pot nuggets, like those weird noodle bundles that resemble shrimp. I have seen thinly sliced beef in the freezer section but it always looks super funky.
Where is the best place to get the stuff?
I also remember this awesome sate paste stuff, where do I get that, any particular brand?
Also would those awesome korean rice cake tube things go good in hot pot, I love those things. I think its called Ddeokbokki.
Anything meat should be purchased at Lucky supermarket in forest lawn. You get a huge pack of everything for pretty similar prices to T&T. I usually pick up all my hotpot stuff there.

No clue about the beef, my parents have a machine to slice them super thin. Go with the squidballs, fishballs, beef balls, the tofu cubes, fresh medium tofu, chinese you choi, egg noodles, fish noodles, vermicelli, shrimp, fish, dumplings, fresh aake mushrooms. Can't remember anything else but some of those things are a good start. Squid balls and beef balls are my personal favorites.
In T&T you can get a bunch of that in the fish section, the balls are all in a section in the corner. I think the spongey tofu stuff is in that section too. The Konjac noodle things come in a plastic container and you should be able to see them inside.
For sauces, we usually have soy sauce with garlic powder, wasabi and hot pepper on the side to mix in.
Man haven't had hotpot in a long time. Can't remember what else there is but that's what i can think of.
In the T&T by Marlborough mall, it should be all nearby the fish section, except for the greens.
From what I remember, at the NW T&T, you can get the thin slice beef right beside all the other meats. Last time I saw, it was beside nice looking beef roasts.
The Korean store across from the high school sells two cuts of sliced beef. It's meant for bulgogi but it'll work fine for hotpot. It's either rib eye or bottom blade (or some kind of chuck). Of course the rib eye is awesome but it's somewhat more expensive. Depends on how much you like your friends.

i think t&t is ur best bet to get all the items like the beef balls, shirmp etc. if u go into any asian meat store theyll slice the beef thinly for you and its a better price. and enoki mushrooms are really good in hotpot too!
just cut it with a knife like a normal person, you think chinese people have a secret tool for that?
No secret tool, just secret skills
ya just go to T&T and ask someone to help you there, it's not that much more expensive than Lucky, I went to Lucky's once many years ago and I was scarred for life...up until that point I've never seen a grocery store as filthy before. It's day & night comparing to the NW T&T.
Lucky Foods on 8th Ave in Forest Lawn was the place that was busted for selling horse meat a few years back. It's also filthy and it reeks like rotten fish, or what I imagine a sea food receiving dock in New York would smell like.
I wouldn't go in that place with a ten-foot pole... Or, you know, a debit card and a shopping list. Whichever makes more sense.
Edit: It was called Jay's Supermarket back then.

Canadian food inspectors say a Calgary supermarket's $80,000 fine for selling horse meat labelled as beef is appropriate.

The meat was discovered during a routine inspection of the store in June 2000. But the supermarket may have been selling horse meat for months, the court heard.

That article is so dated many things have changed since then.
For one, Lucky has different owners (the nguyen family), who have zero affiliation to Jays. I've been there many times, and I don't smell rotten fish nor is it filthy. Actually, I was there last week and the meat department was very clean.
I highly recommend Lucky Supermarket. The prices are better than T&T, and the portions are bigger. Every asian person knows T&T is a ripoff. We just go there out of convenience.
And yes, I'm sure someone here will accuse me of working for Lucky, cause you know, brand/store loyalty=work for said brand/store

I agree. T & T is cleaner than Lucky Supermarket but if you want the more exotic products (like some herbs that I can't find anywhere else i.e thai basil, fresh taro leaf, fish mint) then you should go to Lucky.
If you're just looking for some stuff for hot pot, go to T & T. They all ready have some stuff thinly sliced (chicken and beef) and packed individually. They also have meat balls, tripe, shredded pork.
You can also ask somebody who works there. There's always somebody in the aisles checking their stock.
