Default Worse than a pooping puffin? Liberals photoshop Harper.

Via http://rjjago.wordpress.com/2009/12/...-to-a-new-low/

The Liberal party ran a photoshop contest on their official website. The below entries (via the link above) were posted on December 14.

Safe to say these are worse than a pooping puffin?

And we're surprised that there's hypocrisy in politics?

Is it just me or has Ignatief really lost his nut since being declared the party leader?

This is one that shocks me that the Liberals would put on a website intended to insult Harper... they call him a homosexual. Am I the only one that sees something wrong with this, especially coming from a party which likes to paint itself as the defender of gay rights, such as the right to marry?

Edit: Apparently this is a recurring trend.

And the example that the Liberal party gave on their website... I fail to see what they are trying to get across with this though...

This makes the pooping puffin pale in comparison. Its not even funny or good photoshopping, its personal and its mean spirited.

The one with Harper getting shot is especially disgusting.

The one with Harper in the pride parade - I think the point there is "Well, this is the last place you'd find Stephen Harper."

If this becomes a bigger story, Harper's plan should be to actually be in a pride parade, with a flag. Create the photo - it sticks it to the Liberals, and once again shows that more personal side.

Definately not suprized by this. But if a conservative website posted pictures of Michael Ignatieff photoshopped into pictures there would be some sort of uproar about how terrible and boorish the conservatives are.

I mostly disgusted at how half-assed Canadian politicians are at their character assassinations. Photoshop? Really? There's much more creative ways to be raging d-bags and drag down the political process.

Aren't these guys supposed to be trying to get my vote because I think they'll do something good for me?

This is just juvenile smear tactics.. and poorly executed at that.

The more I think about it, the more I believe that democracy simply doesn't work.

I agree. Some of them were in poor taste and lame but the one of him getting shot went WAAAAYYYY over the line.

I agree with you completely. If you're going to paint yourself as a champion of gay rights, you can't use humour that implies being a homosexual is something insulting. When somebody makes a joke at my expense that implies I'm gay I really don't find it offensive because I don't see anything wrong with being gay.

I can't stand politics in this country. The Conservatives are too right wing for my liking, the Liberals are too ######ed and the NDP is too crazy.

I don't like Harper, but for gods sake you can't publicly display a photoshop image of him getting assassinated.

Someone in politics made a tasteless photoshop image, website graphic, or tweet?

OMG! Democracy does not work! I am not voting for the WAP, Liberals or Conservatives based on this!

Honestly. Forget about those idiots in charge of those websites, do you guys see how stupid that makes you look?

My post about democracy not working was just a opportunity to roll out one of my favorite Kent Brockman quotes nothing more and nothing less.

You do realize first and foremost that these pictures were posted on the official Liberal part website, not some off shoot site but the web site of the official opposition.

You do realize that the Liberal's raised a massive stink during Puffin gate right, this is far worse, and Ignatief who has final say on any communications for the Liberal party has shown again that he's having trouble controling whats coming out of his party right?

Unlike Puffingate these images are far more insulting, disturbing and in a couple of images outright disgusting.

This is further indication of the utter failure of Ignatief who is turning out to be a poor choice if the Liberal's want to re-invent themselves. For lack of a better word, Michael is looking like the Sarah Palin of Canada without the long lucious legs and formidable rack.

When the Puffingate broke the media was all over it, the talking heads were all over it, there were angry posts here about it.

I'm not angry about it, I find it sad and wrong.

Is Michael Ignatief the right choice to lead the Liberal party? I don't see it, he's out of touch, he hasn't shown any real strategic talent and he's all over the map.

Unfortunately for the Liberal's we've heard that Bob Rae is pushing for the leadership role in that party, another lousy choice when it comes to gaining voters in Ontario.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ignatief is back teaching scrubbed young faces at Harvard by this time next year.

If the Conservative party website hosted an image of Ignatieff as one of the village-people, CBC would have a new headline story for national news. The Conservatives would be burned/crucified for being insensitive, mocking homosexuals and being terrible human-beings in general.

Of course it's the other way around, so nobody will even know it's happened.

And ya, regardless of what you think of Harper, assassination picks are WAY out of line.

From what I can tell, the Liberals are in even worse shape right now than when Dion was leading them. I think their existence as a party is at stake if they don't perform well in the next election, whenever it happens to be.

I don't know if their existance is at stake, however I do think that the best thing that could happen to them would be a Kim Campbellesque destruction at the polls where they finish a distant distant third.

This would force them to lose the Canadian elite ruling party attitude and the arrogance that pervades their ranks. they would need to re-invent the Liberal Party thought processes and become a force of change instead of a force for stagnation, negative inertia and cynicism.

As much as we hate Jack Layton, he has done a pretty good job of acting like an opposition party and rebuilding the NDP and showing some basic leadership skills.

Ignatief hasn't done that, but if his destruction and departure leads to the cleaning of the senior ranks and I'm looking at you Rae and Goodale and others, then its a positive thing for them to get creamed.

Liberals apologize for the photos. Of course, these images weren't created by the Liberal party and all entries for the photoshop contest were screened but the Jack Ruby photo somehow slipped through the cracks. Also, the cow picture was simply misinterpreted. And they only appeared briefly. Sheesh.

Quote:
"It's important to keep in mind that the pictures are created by visitors to our website, and do not always reflect the views of the LPC," spokesman Daniel Lauzon said in an e-mail, noting the submissions were intended to be humourous. "That being said, offensive photos have no business on our site.

"Though we do screen the pictures before posting them, it appears the Lee Harvey Oswald picture slipped through the cracks — it has since been removed. We apologize to those who took offence to the image."
Here's the note on the Liberal website:

Quote:
A note to all viewers:

We thank all participants in this photo challenge who have submitted their entries for consideration. Our intent was to engage Canadians concerned about the Prime Minister’s reluctance to attend the climate change conference in Copenhagen.

The photos here are created by visitors to our website, and do not always reflect the views of the Liberal Party of Canada. Though we continue to screen submissions before posting, we have removed certain images that may have been offensive to some viewers.

We apologize for any offence these images may have caused, and continue to strive to present a progressive and dynamic web experience for our site visitors.

Sincerely,
The Web Team

The gay pictures all still seem to be there with the exception of the Brokeback one. Maybe I missed it though.
