Not sure about Rock and Roll, but ABBA made some great pop music (that is if one gets over themselves and accepts the fact that whenever it comes on the radio, it tends to put smiles on peoples faces).
If ABBA can make it then pretty much anyone is eligible.
Hey, at least they wrote and sang their own lyrics, and played their own instruments. Hardly ever happens today amongst all the "performance artists" out there.

Yeah well Lady Gaga writes and plays all her own stuff so WHARBLE GARBLE GARBLE!
Who the hell is Abba? Seriously, I've never heard of them. Pretty weird for a band that's in the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame".
Why does this deserve it's own thread again?
P.S. I've heard some Lady Gaga comparisons in this thread. If they're anything like Lady Gaga, I guess there's probably a reason I have subconsciously blocked them from my existence.

Seriously, though, good for Abba. At the height of their fame there wasn't a bigger act out there. I know they're not pure Rock 'n Roll, but the Hall of Fame and Rock n' Roll itself are hardly purist endeavours.

If by smile, you mean blood-thirsty rage, then yes. There are only two bands that make me change the radio station upon the opening chord, Linkin Park and ABBA.

Dude you're telling me you don't think this song kicks a ton of ass?
no disrespect to ABBA as a pop act, but for them to be included in a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while bands like Deep Purple, Rush and Kiss are excluded really kills the credibility of such a hall.

Wow, I sure didn't know Deep Purple, Rush and Kiss weren't in the HOF.
Not sure why people are so bent out of shape about this. Actually, I'm not sure I ever understood why people get so upset over genre. I don't even know what the genre "Rock n' Roll" means anymore. It can be applied to stuff by Little Richard to stuff like Metallica. I'm pretty sure there are soul bands, r&b bands, hip hop bands in the R&R hall of fame too. Its more like a music hall of fame anyways. Rock n' Roll is such a vast variety of music, to apply it only to music with thick guitar riffs is pretty shortsighted. I think by this point most popular music we associate with is all under the "Rock n' Roll" umbrella anyways, its just constantly being split up and subdivided into new categories as it grows. I don't think they need a new hall of fame for alt-country, emo, trip hop, hillbilly funk or anything like that.
