Default Deerfoot Trail shut down at 22X; road may be closed for hours

Quote:
CALGARY - Police have had to shut down a stretch of Deerfoot Trail and expect the southbound lanes to be closed for several hours this afternoon after a lumber truck lost its load in a collision.
The collision involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle happened on southbound Deerfoot at Highway 22X at about 1:15 p.m.
Police estimated at 2 p.m. that it may take an additional two or three hours to clean up the scene and are asking motorists to avoid the area if possible

Just a heads up for anyone heading home.

Awesome. Glad I don't take Deerfoot home, but I imagine all other routes into or through MacKenzie Towne are going to be a mess.

Here's a working link to the video. It's Flash, so you can probably view it even at work.

CTVcalgary.ca
There were major traffic delays on Deerfoot Trail Thursday afternoon after a major crash shut down the busy freeway.
Southbound traffic was backed up for kilometres because of a crash between Seton Boulevard S.E. and Marquis of Lorne Trail.
The crash happened at around 1 p.m.

The truck and another vehicle crashed, spilling piles of lumber on the south lanes.
The clean-up is underway and police now say the investigation could last through the afternoon rush hour.

Injuries are believed to be minor.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
Traffic is being detoured at Marquis of Lorne Trail S.E.
Firefighters had to free the driver of one of the vehicles by cutting through the steering with hydraulic tools.
It's still not clear exactly how the two vehicles collided with each other.

There's a few Pics of the crash

Backed up for kilometers, eh? Deerfoot is perfectly fine past 130th. Seems like they got it cleaned up quite fast, perhaps.

I bet it had something to do with the sun. A couple times driving south today I had major difficulties seeing with all the spray in the air and the reflective wet streets. Wouldn't be surprised if somebody cut someone else off while blinded, causing someone to slam brakes and then the semi to swerve and then tip over, and then someone to crash into the semi.

I know what you're saying. I was out this afternoon around 1:30PM and Turning South or driving South was Hellish at times. Sunglasses and Visors (at times) are not even effective. We're 4 Days away from the sun being at it lowest point in the south....The shortest day of the Year.

....After that, the Days get longer and we are well on our way to Spring!!!
..........

.......yeah right!..

It was backed up all the way passed 24th st. in Douglasdale. Took me like 45 minutes (because I cheated and rode the shoulder) just to get to Anderson/Bow Bottom.

Friggin brutal!!

Took me AN HOUR to get from 130th to Cranston!!!

That's 7km! What a disaster. That, and the cell phone lines are down and jammed.
