My wife and I have seen the first two seasons and really enjoyed it. I'd like to watch the rest some time.

The finale is perhaps, the best series finale ever made.
I strongly urge you all to watch the series start to end.
Magnificent television.

I just finished watching the last season last night and it was great, every season was excellent but the ending did it justice, which rarely happens in TV.

The seasons are only 4 or 5 discs, you can rent 3 for $9 from Blockbuster and take a month to watch them. Pretty good deal, been renting a few different TV shows on DVD that way, don't know what to get next.
Any opinions? Thinking either Deadwood or Carnivale? Opinions?

Battlestar Galactica. Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnel, Tricia Helfer, other newcomers. Very well written. Great immersive quality. Incredible if you're a space / science fiction fan but NOT necessary. Highly enjoyable.

I second this.
Other shows I'd recommend
The Wire -- very immersive. Almost like a novel unfolding in front of your eyes. It follows the lives of police, criminals and their families/friends in the city of Baltimore.
The Sopranos -- I'm sure you know what its about. Amazing television.
The Shield -- very gritty, raw drama about corrupt cops
The 4400 -- 4400 people are returned from being 'abducted' all throughout histrory. None of them have aged and day and remember nothing of what's happened to them; strange events ensue.
Entourage -- Light, entertaining fluff but strangely intriguing. Its like Maxim magazine on television.
Arrested Development and/or The Office -- my favourite comedies. Hilarious!

You can't go wrong with a HBO series. Out of those two I would prefer Deadwood. I absolutely loved it. I have only seen the first season of Carnivale. I thought it was good as well. But Deadwood, start to finish is great tv.

Both of these are great. I highly recommend you watch the second season of Carnivale. It is better than the first, IMO. The only disappointing part is how they cancelled it and in essence, it leaves you hanging.
The third season of Deadwood came out a couple of weeks ago. They are reportedly working on 2-2 hour movies to close off this series.

I've only seen a few episodes of season 1 of Six Feet Under. I was impressed and have been meaning to rent or borrow the DVDs.
I just finished season 1 of Deadwood and was blown away. It gives you a true feel of what it was like to "be there" in a boom town in the 1800s. The characters are gritty and compelling...they get in your head in ways that most other shows can't even come close to. I can't wait to start season 2.

Deadwood. Amazing show (as long as a lot of swearing doesn't bother you -- A LOT).

Bumping an old thread because, wow; I just watched the entire DVD set over the last few months and I can honestly say it's the best TV series I have ever watched.
Now that's not saying to much as I have only ever watched The Sopranos, AD, and Dexter in their entirety but I thought Six Feet Under was better than those 3, (yes I know Dexter doesn't really count as the entire series, oh and AD is completely different, but you get the point ).
I'd recommend this show to absolutely anyone. I got to say, at times, Michael C Hall almost steals the show with his performance, but by the end you really do connect to the entire main family.
Oh and the ending is just perfect. Absolutely perfect.

Definitely one of my favourite shows. I finished watching the series a month or two ago, and it was just absolutely amazing. Such good acting, and a really powerful storyline.

I watched all five season last summer in about 2 weeks. I was hooked. Absolutely amazing television. It might be my favorite all time show and I didn't think anything would knock of Sopranos for me. But the acting is top notch on all fronts. I think my favorite charcater was Ruth. I found her tragically hilarious. When she flips out during her "Plan" meeting, I was literally howling. Michael C Hall as David was brilliant as well. he's ana amazing actor who should get more credit than he does. I thikn he was better in Six Feet than in Dexter, but that's taking nothing away from his performance inn Dexter, because he is really good in that as well. I would love to see him in some movies.
If you like Six Feet under and American Beauty, check out True Blood. Created by Alan Ball, the same guy who did Six Feet and AB.........I am hooked on True Blood, was since literally the ending to the first epieosde. Season 2 premiere is this Sunday and I am super stoked.
