CALGARY, AB. - The BOSTON PIZZA WHL Player of the Week is forward Ryan Howse of the Chilliwack Bruins.

Howse collected seven points, scoring three goals and four assists to go with a +5 rating, in three games over the past week, helping the Bruins post a 2-0-0-1 record in that span.
This guy looks pretty good so far. Congrats Ryan!

Seems like a true natural sniper. Hard to find guys like that outside the top few picks each year...

The knock on Howse so far in the WHL has been his defensive play (or lack thereof). It seems as though Marc Habscheid's system isn't toying with his scoring ability though, had his 22nd last night against Kootenay.

PS: Bruins will be on Sportsnet on Sunday against (who else) Vancouver. 6:00 Mountain start time I think..

lol

The three things in his favour as a dipsy-doodler in my opinion are that:

1) A successful dipsy doodler in the WHL is about the best sort of dipsy dooler you can find I think?

2) Scoring that many goals on a team with not a lot of support cannot be easy no matter how much dipsy-doodling you do. It is not like he is playing in Windsor or something.

3) At 18 he is 5'11 and 195lbs (calgaryflames.com), which means he is already Langkow size. I need to watch him live still but that sounds pretty solid, although admittedly not huge?

I don't know WHL/CHL player movement tendencies that well, but do people here think Howse is a likely trade target near the end of the year for a team making a run? (Assuming Chilliwack is not in the mix.)

Chilliwack will make the playoffs, and with a bit of luck could get home-ice in the first round I think. That said, they traded their starting goalie a couple days ago.

Howse, Sundher and Manning on the back end for them should be pretty much untouchable I'd say, though the team took a lot of flak for not trading Santorelli and Moller a couple of years ago at the deadline.
