Default Any bowlers out there?

Up until last year, all I had ever bowled was 5 pin.

Last year my wife and I joined a 10 pin league and we love it. We go every Tuesday nite from September til the end of April. We each bought balls too which were surprisingly much less than I thought they would cost. (about $150 each complete with holes drilled to custom fit your hand).

I love throwing that 14 lb. ball down the alley and then watch it hook the last 10 ft into the pocket for a big strike. So awesome. At the start of last year I was averaging about 120. This year I'm averaging about 160. My high score so far is 211.

I almost cracked 300 in five pin two years ago. I don't mind 10, but 5 pin is my game. Imagine, a CP Bowling League...

A perfect game in 10 pin is 300. In 5 pin its 450.

I've never bowled in a league, but I go with friends every couple weeks and play 10-pin.

I'm leaps and bounds better than them, I'd say I average about 155. The next highest from our regular group is about 110. But we just drink beer and have a good time.

My best score is 187.

I bowl 2 nights a week in a 10 pin league here in Oklahoma. No one knows about 5 pin here.... I do like 5 pin though , I can throw the ball like a baseball ... Strike everytime HAHA!!!!

Just out of curiousity what is the weekly charge for your tuesday night league and how long is it ? We pay 12 bucks a week and its freakin 33 weeks longs .....

We had a guy set a new oklahoma state record a few weeks ago by bowling a 891 series ( 3 games) that 2 x 300's and a 291 .... freaking incredible.... Needless our team is in last place... I only bowl to spend time with my dad!

Now that I've learned the 10 pin game, 10 pin is so much better than 5 pin. In 10 pin you can hook (curve) the ball so that it can strike the pocket at an angle instead of straight on. This improves your chances for a strike..... plus when those 10 pins go flying.... its awesome.

I found in 5 pin that the ball was so hard to control. More often than not i'd just fire that ball down the lane and watch the pins fly. Lets just say my scores were not that good

I don't get your point. 300 is still hard to come by in 5 pin.

It costs $12 and thats for 3 games on Tuesday nite. The league runs from mid September til mid April.... so we're talking about 28 weeks.

I used to 10 pin bowl quite a bit when I lived in Calgary. Twice a week at least, and tournaments on the weekends. I've also bowled in the big USBC tournament in Reno Nevada. It's a great game that takes a lot more skill than just firing the ball down the lane at 100 miles an hour.

My average was 176 and my highest game is 269. Not too bad for a female bowler.

Rerun, do you bowl at Let's or at Mountain View? And did you get Rich at Let's to drill your bowling balls for you?

same as us.... just know that your prob a team of 4 or 5 ... the last week you get together and every team gets money back based on stadings.... we did a 12 week league of 4 people in the summer and we were next to last and got 50 bucks back as a team lol!!! enough to buy a couple rounds of beer!!!!

Do you guys play a 30 pts series ? or just 4 pts ( each game won by team is a pt and then who ever win total pins gets a point)

Yes it is... getting a 300 out of 450 in 5 pin is about the same as getting a 200 out of 300 in 10 pin..... thats why in 10 pin I've only broke 200 once so far.

I was just making the point that a perfect game in 5 pin is 450 and in 10 pin its 300....

.....for those who don't know that there is a difference. A lot of people here in Canada just aren't too familiar with 10 pin scoring.

I used to go almost every week. There was 4 of us that would always go, and we'd always invite two more. It was mostly a cheap excuse to drink, but a really fun one at that. The funny thing was that my g/f was a total natural, so us guys had to check our tough guy pride at the door, as it wasn't uncommon for her to beat all three of us. Of course, maybe because she was the DD, and we were hammered? Also my buddy's sister would come every so often and school us as well. Any game that a chick can do as well or better than a guy is fun because it's easy to get chicks to come play.
10 pin is where it's at. I don't care for 5 pin.

Not to brag but in high school I was captain of our bowling team and I placed 3rd in the province. That was in 5 pin.

The best bowling though is back east with candlestick bowling. You get a ball like five pin but there are 10 tall skinny pins and they do not clear them away in between balls. Makes it more fun having to take in account for the fallen pins.

Where are the best 10pin bowling alleys in Calgary?
I used to bowl a lot when i was down in Floirda over the summer and would love to start up again.
However something tells me that the beer and bowling in Calgary will be nowhere near as cheap as it was in Florida - $5 per peson an hour and $1 beers!!!!!!!!!

Not too shabby at all!!!!

I bowl at Silver Dollar. The lanes are crappy and need to be re-done and the pinsetters break down all the time, but its a lot closer to where I live (I live in Okotoks) and there is just something about bowling on real hardwood lanes. The plastic (laminate) lanes are nice and consistant but frankly they just don't sound as good when the ball hits the lane.

Plus its harder to get into a league at Lets Bowl.... not as many openings at the start of the season.

I've never bowled at Mountain View. Don't know anything about it or where it is.

I bought my ball from Rich at Lets Bowl and he drilled it for me.... but then I had Martin Chan at Silver Dollar re-drill it for me. I prefer Martin's work.... he gave me a better fit.

This spring I'm going to buy a second ball (one with a little more hook) and I will most likely get it from Martin Chan and have him drill it for me.
