Default The Road

I just saw this. Jesus, what a downer. The movie completely nails the sense of utter despair.

I had read the book and loved it. Or rather, I completely admired the craftsmanship of the story but still wanted to off myself.

This movie shows that the book is filmable after all. They did it right. All of the uneasiness I had about it getting the Hollywood treatment is thankfully unfounded. I had some quibbles about the ending, but nothing serious.

The casting was perfect I would say. Viggo Mortensen pretty much matches my mental picture of "the Man" and clearly conveys a sense of exhaustion and grim determination.

I will be seeing this again, just not for a while.

The Road and 2012 aren't even the same stratosphere. Cormac Mccarthy is incapible of such drivel.

I made it about 10 pages in, I cant stand Mccarthy's writing style.

I will probably rent it sometime.. I don't think I could stand watching a movie in Pittsburgh for so long. Pittsburgh apparently qualifies as a post apocalyptic wasteland.

Blood Meridian is probably my favorite book of Mccarthys...I always thought it would make a good mini-series as it's too much of a story to tell in a standard length movie.

The book was amazing. It took me awhile to get used to McCarthy's writing style, but after awhile you get hooked and its natural.

I really want to see this, as the book is my favorite, and I just read it this past year. I knew as soon as Viggo was starring in it he'd do the character justice. The man is super talented, as he can go from hero (Lord of The Rings) to criminal/mob badass (Eastern Promises) to caring and loving father (The Road).

Hopefully this weekend. Good to hear that it respected the book quite well. I might look into Blood Meridian in the New Year as well as "You Shall Know Our Velocity" by Dave Eggers and "Breakshot" by Kenji "Kenny" Gallo.

I didn't even know it was released yet. Sure not getting much publicity is it.

I've been reading this for the better part of a year. Tough sledding.

Sometimes even within the same movie. *spoilers in white* (A History of Violence)
