SpikeTV Video Game Award nominees named.
Vote for your picks!
Some really tough choices to make, too. I spent fifteen minutes deciding between Modern Warfare 2 and L4D2 for GOTY.

batman should win because no one expected it to be any good and it was great. All the others are sequels.

It was between Batman and AC2 for me, and since I just beat AC2 I picked it, how ever if I went and beat Batman in the next week, my mind would implode at the decision. MW2 is good but not GOTY, same with L4D2. Never played Uncharted but I hated the first one.

Uncharted 2 by a landslide. From those picks, AC2 would be runner up
Sad to see Infamous be basically ignored, except for 'Best PS3 Game'. Definitely one of the top games of the year. Same with Resident Evil 5.
Spike's awards have rarely been 'Best of the Year' and more 'Best of September - November'.

This is the biggest joke of an awards show that there is. An absolute sham. I wonder who gave them the most advertising dollars this year? We'll find out when they open the envelopes!
Not to mention that they basically don't recognize any game that isn't made and heavily advertised in the USA. It's like Japan and Europe don't even make (some of the very best) games. Also, if youtr game didn't have a 80+ million dollar advertising budget, you have no chance.
It's embarassing that real actual gamers may watch and support this joke.

Relax, it's pretty much the mtv movie awards for videogames. No one would ever watch a serious videogame award show that's why it's all flashy crap for this one. All the serious awards like BAFTA are still handed out to more deserving developers.

Ok, lets hear your picks?
Marketing has very little to do with IMHO.
This is also for games actually released in NA - if a game was JPN exclusive, it wont be voted on.

Left 4 Dead 2 is amazing. Limitless replay value.

Basically. Modern Warfare 2 will win every away. Best game, best studio, all that BS, which is a joke because AC2 is better, Batman is better, Dragon Age is better.

I really hope Uncharted 2 takes GOTY. MW2 had a weak story, it seemed like a story built around how many "OH SNAP" attempted moments as possible, while Uncharted 2 designed a great story then built a game to accodate it. Plus, MW2 multiplayer isn't even that great when compared to the likes of L4D2.
I still think Dragon Age is the best release of 2009. And Borderlands really got no love on that list :S

I finished the MW2 single player campaign over the weekend and was kind of disappointed. Don't get wrong it's fun but the story is disjointed and not told very well. Oh well - at least the multiplayer is money.

Lot's of good choices there. I've played all the GOTY nominees and Uncharted 2 is the clear winner imo. I'm enjoying MW2 and having tons of fun with L4D2 but Uncharted raised the bar for sheer entertainment, production values, and acting I believe. It's a stunning release.
I love Dragon Age too. Bioware are such a fantastic developer.
I'm also enjoying Borderlands and perhaps it could have got a nomination somewhere in that massive list.

I don't really find the story of uncharted 2 that great, it's the characters that bring the game to life. When my friends ask if they should play the first game for the story I say no, you should play it to get to know the characters. Uncharted has a real likable cast, I have no idea why they're not nominated for it. And what the hell is matt hazard which did get nominated?
Edit* Oh it looks like the nominations are based on star talent. That's kinda bull since uncharted is only nominated for voice yet the actors all did the mocap as well while all the other games with the big stars did voice only(i think).

I somewhat agree. The first MW's campaign was epic from start to finish. The 2nd one was kinda 'meh', until the end. The end few missions of MW2 were complete epicness, I'm not sure there is a cooler ending that MW2.
*spoilers*
Hunting down Shepherd on the boat was cool, then the last sequence in the sandstorm was about as epic as epic can be. Pulling out the knife and throwing into his eye made me cream myself like 12 times in a row.
