Sixth Sense Technology (Amazing Video)
http://www.ted.com/talks/pranav_mist...echnology.html
Absolutely amazing technology. There can be misuses of it as well but a very cool presentation.
If you have trouble understanding him, there's a subtitle option right underneath the video.

Quite the visionary work, especially when you start thinking about the potential applications. This whole "augmented reality" concept seems to be the latest craze, just look at the recent trends in iPhone app developement.
What sort of misuses were you worried about? Projecting an interactive penis on unsuspecting people would be amusing.

Haha no nothing to do with penises. Scanning someone's CC number or any kind of personal information would be at the tip of your fingers (no pun intended)

Good point, although I'm sure by the time these devices are mainstream, tangible things like credit/SIN cards will have been replaced by digital means.

Yeah, you'd have to add more layers of security....but you have to do that right now anyways, just in different ways.
This kind of technology is exactly what computers should be. Information at the tip of your finger tips, always available to you, intuitive, and easy to manipulate.
Really cool video, thanks for posting it.

Neat find.
Incredible to think of the directions that concept could eventually go! Amazing next-gen stuff there.

Wow.. that guy is very impressive.
I love how he is all about making it affordable and available to the general public, and not just thinking about the mega bucks through the corps. I imagine he will get paid, or has already been paid, but "wondering about how I can bring the tech to the masses, instead of the labs" is what won me over.

I love how he shows us all that mind blowing stuff and then at the end says; "that's all"... like it's nothing out of the ordinary.
Very cool stuff, but part of me is thinking; "great, one more thing for people to do in a movie theatre besides watching the movie...".

I love TED Talks. One of the best finds on the net IMO. All of the speakers are clear, concise, and use all of their 15 minutes to the max. That's the thing that blows my mind. 15 minutes. That's it.
There's some awesome stuff on that whole site that can change the world and solve so many problems. The one mushroom video for instance, as well as the crow one. Mindblowing stuff.
This whole concept that he's presented is amazing. All of the objects and how they can be interacted with, from a stapler to a coffee cup to a pong game. This thing could really bring about good things, and won't have us sitting on our buts in front of screens, a la Wall E and Idiocracy have presented to us in ideas of our present future.
Great find.

Well it's not like the ideas are unique, I've been wanting augmented reality since I was a young teen, and as he says the technology itself isn't that complicated.
It's how he's combined them and picked a lot of different use cases where this could really work that's so impressive.
Personally I don't like the projecting onto something, I'd rather have contacts that could overlay the images onto reality. Though a projector does let you share with others.

It's like the approach taken with Ubuntu. This guy will probably still make some crazy cash through developing his idea for certain applications for private interests, I'm glad that he didn't get greedy and take all the cash from the initial concept and the subsequent developing of it. Pretty stand-up gesture.

That reminds me of the part in IronMan when he is building his suit using that pen to throw stuff in and out of the design.
Really cool.
