Very cool visualization of the British, French, Spanish and Portugese empires as they grow and then collapse due to the forming of independent countries.

Would be cooler by population instead of surface area. I don't really see what the big deal about this is though.

Did I miss the US in this? I figured when the British lost the US it'd be a chunk gone.

It started in 1800 so the US was already lost by that point. I'm surprised it was started so late, most of the interesting stuff was in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Oh thanks, I didn't notice the year in the bottom left until about a third of the way through.
