Anyone seen the fight between Filipino boxer Manny "PacMan" Pacquiao and Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto this weekend? PacMan was way too quick and too strong for the Puerto Rican. Cotto was bloodied all over his face and the only way he can get Pacquaio is if he corners him. The guy was just running around after the 10th round and there are times Pacquiao (the heck with you, i am not going after you anymore). In the 12th round, as soon Pacquiao hit him in the face, the referee decided enough of this running crap and he stopped the fight. Manny Pacquiao now have 7 Division Titles. I believed that is the record in boxing. Every boxing afficianados calls Pacquaio, the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. I think one more big fight against Mayweather and Pacman will retire.

Yeah 7 titles is the record, no one in history has ever done it before.
It's too bad UFC fighters are more famous. PacMan is incredible.
Too many organizations in boxing to keep track of things. That and there aren't very man big name fights to keep people entertained. Pacquiao and Mayweather need to fight to save their sport. They're bickering about the purse, but that purse is going to start to shrink if they don't get to it soon.

Boxing has to get out of PPV, and back on network TV.
In the 1970s, Cossell made Ali the most famous man in the world.

Globally, PacMan is more famous. That was an incredible performance. Why do I continue to bet against this guy? I keep thinking he's bitten off more than he can chew...too big...too strong - and he keeps proving me wrong. Can't help but admire him.
A mega-fight with Mayweather will have to happen and I don't know who will win that. Mayweather will be more elusive than anyone PacMan has fought. It would be an amazing match. Surely they can make it happen.

If Mayweather takes it seriously, trains properly and fights smart I think he wins it easily, but considering that he is likely to screw around and nobody is better at preparing than Pacquiao I think it would be a pretty good fight.

That's only part of it. IMO the biggest reason boxing has declined in popularity is the lack of exciting / good heavyweights. When Bowe, Holyfield, Lewis, Tyson, hell even Mercer were around, people wanted to see those fights. Boxing goes the way of the heavyweight division, and right now that division sucks.
Boxing is losing a lot of talent to MMA as well. I don't care what anyone says, it takes a hell of a lot more talent to be an elite boxer than it does to be a MMA fighter. Guys are taking the easy way out, and the quick buck is MMA.
I'm picking Pacquiao in a Mayweather matchup. Love Money May, but I think Pacquiao would overwhelm him. Mayweather's bread and butter is defensive fighting and picking his spots. PacMan and his energy, accuracy and ability to throw good punches from odd angles would do it.

Why is it on PPV? I watched the fight with some friends (all Filipino) and really enjoyed it. But I wouldn't have even considered paying $55 or $65 to watch it on my own.
