Drunky McDrunkardson pilot about to fly 300 people from London to Calgary arrested
Quote:
A pilot was marched off his plane and arrested for being over the alcohol limit moments before he was set to take off from Heathrow Airport.
Security staff at Terminal 3 alerted police claiming they could smell alcohol on Daniel Dufour's breath.
The 45-year-old captain was then hauled out of the cockpit and arrested after failing a breath test.
Dufour had been due to fly 300 passengers on a nine-hour trip to Calgary from London on the Air Canada Flight AC851.
He had allegedly been drinking with colleagues the previous night, according to The Sun.

Note to self - Do not drink at Heathrow airport and try to fly a plane... Anywhere else is okay!
"His arrest comes four months after Jet Airways pilot Michael Harr was arrested at Heathrow over fears he had drunk too much to fly."

Got to love the media, want the real facts?
-he was not the pilot, but a relief pilot that was not scheduled to fly the plane at all
-according to this thread http://www.airliners.net/aviation-fo....main/4395597/ the pilot has already been cleared by a blood test. This is from a longhaul pilot at Air Canada.
-the smell of alcohol was caused by Cherry chewing gum
-the breath test at LHR has a 7% false positive rate
-the article couldn't even get the type of plane right, it was a 777-300, not an Airbus 330.

Normally an internet poster isn't more credible than a newspaper, but this is the daily mail. It's no sun, but this is another lead story for them today:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...st-months.html
So, I'm going with the anonymous guy. Much more reliable.

Oh, I'm aware of the source. It's just funny that someone comes on to say they have the exact facts and posts to a interwebz message board to corroborate those facts.

I agree that it sounds about a credible as the article, but you have to look at the person posting in the forum over at airliners.net. That forumer with the facts is a longhaul pilot with Air Canada, so I'm going to take his much more accurate information over something from a fishwrap anyday.

And if was somehow confirmed that he was in fact what he claims to be on the internet, then I too would take that word for it. But to me, it's like coming over on CP and claiming to be an insider of a hockey club and that you know that Dion Phaneuf will be traded. There's a seed of doubt that I'm exactly who I say I am on the internets.

Well modern airliners have a pilot, co-pilot and a dog in the cockpit. The pilot and co-pilot are there to monitor all the guages and screens, the dog is there to bite either of them if they try and touch anything.
Any pilot will still hand fly an airplane when they can (takeoff and landings), unless the SOP's (standard operating procedures) of the operator call for the autopilot to be used in certain cases (low visibility, different phases of flight, etc.).

One relief pilot does not a disaster make (who was never even scheduled to sit in one of the pilots seats I might add). What about the EQUALLY qualified person in the other seat in the cockpit?

Holy balls, I didnt know Yoda posted here.
If you are on the job, and getting paid, you shouldn't be getting drunk. End of story. Unless you can get away with it, either way, he didnt.
