Default Whiteboard Question

I tried quickly googling this, but could only find pages on 'removing' permanent ink from whiteboards.

What I want to do is make some dry erase ink on a whiteboard already, stay on there permanently. Or at least make it more difficult to remove. Is there an easy way to do this? With, I don't know, hairspray, or something?

The story is that a few years ago, at my dad's office, I did a fairly large scale drawing on his whiteboard. He thought it was so great that he kept it there, and I heard often got compliments on it. Last month, however, he lost his battle with cancer, but his work offered to give us the whiteboard to keep.

So, any suggestions would be appreciated, as I really have no clue about how to go about 'preserving' this drawing which he loved so much.

First, sorry about your loss, I lost my dad to cancer and its devastating. My sympathies to you and your family.

I don't have an answer, but you mentioned hairspray so I wanted to let you know that one of my employees once sprayed hairspray on our whiteboard to remove permanent marker from it and it worked really fast. I would be worried it would instantly destroy your art, rather than preserve it.

The whiteboard surface itself is designed to prevent anything from being permanent. I would imagine anything sprayed on could result in disaster.

Have you considered buying a large frame that would fit the size of the dry erase board and have your art protected by glass? Something along those lines is probably the best option for keeping the artwork in the best condition. I'd also suggest taking a high quality photo of it in the event something happens before you figure out exactly how you want to handle it.

If you don't want to use the board again, get some clear coat spray from Canadian Tire

First, Sorry to hear about your Dad.

RE: The white board. I would be very hesitatant to spray anything on it.

You could get a small inexpensive white board and test some spray products on it, but even then, you never know if you are using the same kind of pen as the original and that might make a difference. Who knows.

I would either get it Framed, or just bolt a sheet of Plexi-glass or Lexan right onto the board itself to cover and protect the original image.

Sorry for loss IgnitedSoul. I lost my dad to cancer 9 years ago.

I would take it to a framing store and tell them your sitaution and ask them what is the best to have it framed.

You can epoxy the whiteboard.

Watch out at 3:49. I can't believe I watched that entire video...

Apparently, the resin will yellow over time. Thankfully, only on the white parts, .

Exactly what I was thinking when I read the OP. I would just buy a piece of plexiglass the same size as the inside of the whiteboard and just driller four holes, one in each corner, and fasten it with some nuts and bolts.

I'd be very careful about spraying anything on it as it might do the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish.

I own a few whiteboards and if you find anything you are curious about I would have no problem trying it out before you ruin your memory.

P.S. Sorry to hear about your father!

Someone at work mistakenly used a permanent marker on our whiteboard so we sprayed some Pledge all in one cleaner on it and it came right off. As soon as it hit the ink it immediately starting running down the board.
