Default Dog//Puppy - School

A quick question, I am in the process of buying a Puppy (Lab-a-Doodle) for my kids.

Is anyone aware of a Puppy School in Calgary?

Sit Happens in the NE (16th Ave + 12th St. roughly). We took our Lab puppy there and it was fantastic!! Have to wait till their 12weeks old and have all their shots, but I highly recommend taking them there ASAP for socializing. Iggy is super friendly, not afraid of anything, and great around people. We did 2 sets of training with them afterwards as well.

There's a number of them in town. What area are you in? I took mine to Superdog Spectrum, at Glenmore and Blackfoot. They have an excellent puppy training class called Canine Communication. I've had him in a few classes there, and all have been excellent!

We go to Sit happens and they allow puppies as soon as they have 2 shots.

Iggy isnt "litter box" trained, but she knows that to pee + shat she has to go to a certain area in the yard. Easy to do actually, every time she has to pee we follow her out, go to "her spot" say "go pee" and giver her a treat. Had her whipped into shape in about 2 weeks.

Yes, there are certain breeds that do it better than others. I've seen miniature shih tzu's that are litter trained.

I guess that begs the question, why not just get a cat?

Sit happens was fantastic for us as well... I just couldn't resist going there because of the name.

Cats? Nah............not a cat guy at all.

Think more along the lines of the quiet mut that sleeps on your front step. My parents have a shih-tzu and I hate it. It piddles when strangers go near it and it doesn't shut up.

Yes and it doesn't really matter the size of the dog, bigger dogs just need a bigger pan that they can go on/in. My South African Borboels did excellent with a pan on those minus 30 plus winter days in the house, or through the night if needed, or when they were home alone, as did my 16 year old Chihuahua all the time.
There's also some indoor potty area things that I've seen, never tried them though...personally.

Cats don't care who breaks into your home steals your autographed Flames sh8t and flat-sceen LCD's and plasmas tvs.

Also Dogs get the girls. If you are a guy do you think a cat will get the girls at the park, the answer is no only dogs will.

Cats look silly on a leash.

Dogs will wake you up if the house is on fire. Cats will quietly sneak
out the back door.

Dogs are social. Cats are sociopaths.

Is that a serious question, if you are a dog person you are NOT a cat person.

My cousins gf has 2 shih-tzu and I love them. One is about 7 years old and hes really lazy, LOL. And the other one is almost a year old. He's such alittle devil, but hes so damn adorable.

+whatever for Sit Happens, we did Puppy Playtime and as long as the puppy has been in your home for 10 days and has its shots you are able to attend.

They offer a drop in option or you can register for it and attend until the puppy is 20 weeks old - if you have registered you get puppy training sessions as well as LetsGo sessions (puppies over 5months of age). They use positive methods and use clicker training as well.

They gave us the idea to bell train our dog for potty training in our condo and it works great, the puppy now smacks the bell at the door with his paw when he needs to go out.

That's a really good point and very true might I add.

Lol, I thought the cat comment would get rise out of a few of you. It was a joke but if your going to get a miniature shih tzu that craps in a litter box, it's not much different than a cat.

Oh, and I am very much a cat and dog person but if I had to be completely honest I would choose a dog first.

My in-laws have one as well and I love little thing... very affectionate, smart dog. She isn't very social with other dogs but that could be the training.

My dog minored in rolled up newspaper and majored in swift kick to the ribs; he strives to do everything I say even if he has no idea what is going on.

Labs are super easy to train as they are very intelligent.
